Improving replaced stereo in Astra H

    Hey All,

I replaced the stock stereo in my Astra H (2008) with a Pioneer unit a few months ago, but I don't think I did the best job! A couple of things I am having issues with maybe you can offer some advice. The unit is pretty well reviewed on Amazon so I think the issues are me :P

I used this adapter to install it. It comes with the powered antenna adapter as well (i didnt know this and ended up buying a separate one, so I have a spare)

    Issue 1: Poor Radio Reception
If I remember correctly I power the antena adapter from a blue cable that comes from the stereo. I'm using the cigarette socket for my constant live for the adapter.
    Two problems:
In general the reception is ok. For example driving from Athlone to Galway with the radio set to newstalk it works fine the whole way other than a patch the Galway side of the toll. Or in Balinasloe town reception is very bad as well. My old car or my girlfriends car didnt/doesnt have this problem (cant remember if the stock one has this issue).
The second is that when I charge my phone off the lighter socket the reception goes to crap all together.

Issue 2: Handsfree - people cant hear me very well
Using the bluetooth handsfree feature, I can hear people fine, but they dont seem to be able to hear me very well. It works grand when parked but I guess there environmental noises when driving.

The microphone is beside the rearview mirror, it is from a previous kit that was in the car. The stereo came with a microphone, but I stuggled to get it ran up to the rearview, so I left the old one there instead. (the old kit was a Bury, so it should have been ok i guess)

Is it placed badly there or is that just the nature of these handfree kits on motorways? (nearly all my driving is motorway)

Anyone have any comments on the above?
