Its on ZV plates so you would want a guard too know his stuff to stop you as you can only go for the test if you get called or volunteer to take it yourself . So their is no problem otherwise their would be no exemption & every vehicle that uses the road would be tested like the uk.

the test is still due and it's still illegal not to have it

Its not on the system so if you are stopped by a guard & he checks & its not on the system whats he supposed to do !!!

What you are supposed to do is go to the NCTS and get it tested. If there is a problem, they need to put it right.

What you don't do is think Whay-hay, I must be exempt!

The taxman should hire you its not on the system . The taxman is collecting enough tax from people running big engine cars why would you want to give him more if it was your car part of a collection would you volunteer it when you are paying enough tax on the rest. Nct is another expence we dont need . The money is needed to keep them on the road nct is only 55 euro now what happens when it goes over a 100 euro like the mot will you change your tune then !!!

Do you think Revenue is actually some 'big man' who runs around collecting taxes from people???

In all seriousness if someone can afford to run a classic car they can afford the €55 to NCT the thing.

Quite a number of people with cars in the 56 Euro road tax bracket, couldn't be bothered even to tax them, why would you expect them to pay an extra 55 to have them NCT'd.

It's not a question of paying the taxman more (where does the taxman come into it btw?)

I'm talking about the need to have your car street legal . Your Insurance for instance is severely compromised if you have no NCT for whatever reason when clearly you should have.

The PULSE system will tell the guard that the car needs an NCT. So if you don't have one, you risk a fine of €1,500 (and penalty points?)

And as others said, you might find you have a problem with your insurance in case there was a claim...

Honestly, is any of that worth not paying €55 for an annual comprehensive compliance and safety check?

The only problem I would foresee would be insurance in the event of a claim. If you couldn't get something in writing from the insurance company to say they do not require the car to be NCT'd then you run a serious risk.

That said, I see no problem mentioning it in the ad. Caveat emptor.
