Feeling entirely too offended by the Internet? Worried about what your kids will see? Good news, there's a way to help: Parenting!

    ...I'm just kidding. DNS Servers!

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/tipstricks/a/free-public-dns-servers.htm

Just pick the DNS servers you'd like to subscribe to and your internet will be filtered to your liking. GreenTeamDNS and Norton SafeConnect DNS both block scams, known attack sites, phishing pages, and depending on which server you point at will also block pornographic content or other NSFW or NSF-Family content.

You can change DNS settings on a per-device basis, or for your entire router. In the latter case that means that every iPod your horny critter sneaks in to the bathroom, all your laptops, the Xbox, etc. will be unable to access the wider world of boobs and drugs and violence online. This isn't your Dad's internet, this is Ned Flanders internet. Enjoy!

My son is only 19 months so I can still enjoy a few more years before I have to implement such measures

I've never felt I had to screen or block my daughter's internet, if she a were a lad then it would have filters and blockers out the wazoo...but always felt that it was better to just have serious chats about internet safety. I checkeed here history once or twice through the logs but she was all FB and Twitter...

...then she left her gmail chat open last year with some randomer lad on the internet..let's just say what was seen cannot unseen. Next morning my words were "We need to have a seriously fucking embarrassing conversation"...

She still gets unfiltered access though. Her mother is the complete opposite, rations her internet to 15 minute chunks and makes her ask for the wifi password all the time. She treats the internet like it is toxic waste.

This is a good solution, and like I said would be done in heartbeat for any sons of mine that I don't have.

While obviously we can trust parents to take responsibility for parenting I don't think we can trust them to thwart their offspring through the use of technology either. No, nationwide government internet censorship is the only way forward.

I propose an alternative kind of DNS.

One which forces all links to direct to Porn sites, or porn related sites.

    Porn only firewall already exists.
