Why does he want/need an i7?

If he is playing games only its not worth it as most games are more graphics card dependent. His Amd is a very decent cpu and can be overclocked to give it a bit more speed.

Unless he needs the 4770k for video encoding or the likes its a huge waste of money imo.

    Thanks for your reply
He wants to be able to play games such as Battlefield 4,Call of Duty etc on Ultra settings , while getting high FPS, what do yuo recommend we would need to change to achieve that ?
    Thanks Nicholas

You'd be looking at new CPU, cooler and motherboard. You'll probably also need to invest in an new PSU and graphics card and a new SSD wouldn't go a miss

The only thing you need to run those games at ultra is a better graphics card. The CPU is fine.

Something like a 280x would be a great upgrade. Should get by on a high quality 400w unit, I'll let someone else with more info on your power supply chip in on that.

Your best move to do and least costly in the long run is put a new graphics card in first see how this changes it.

Then should this battlefield 4 still be running slow (which it shouldn't ) get the new CPU and mother****er. Sorry motherboard.

Yes, I second a new graphics card

The processor he currently has is perfectly fine for modern games, the 4770K and new MB will costs hundreds and give him only a few extra frames

Whereas the graphics card, the 7850, while still fine, is more of a budget card the AMD 280X is a great card, good price and performs much faster

That's VT being VT as usual. Cheap, crappy non-ref coolers, bad customer support and a misleading name. That's a 280 x-edition, not a 280x. (I think!).

Can't argue about customer service, but it looks to be a proper R280x according to the manufacturer number and detailed specs, so thats probably just a title error on Scan.co.uk's part.

Its definitely not the greatest cooler for sure but IMO its priced reasonably ok for what it is, and if it is similar to the HD7970 X-version it'd still be a quieter than a reference hoover cooler at the very least.
