Tools & Building Equipment - How to clear ASAP!

    Hi guys,

Looking for a bit of help with regard to clearing my recently deceased Dad's workshop, he was a carpenter so there are a lot of tools & general items that we need to have gone by the 27th of November. I don't even know where to begin & he loved his tools so I'd feel awful to just throw them in a skip!

Does anybody know where I could possibly sell some of these items or know anybody who might be interested in buying them in Cork city? Even if there was such thing as a consultant who could tell me what to keep & value items so I could sell them on eventually!

He was meticulous about caring for them but he wasn't able to use them for the last 2 years. There are a lot of nails, screws etc that I would be happy to give away if anybody wants them. The only reason we aren't giving away the tools is that they'd help towards paying the funeral bill.

I'd appreciate any advice that I can get as we're lost & under serious pressure! Also, does anybody know of a place where tools could be donated in the event that we need to do that?

    Thanks in advance!

Adverts.ie is as good as place as any. There are facebook community pages but they are generally full of scavangers that wont pay much.

If you have a list send me a pm and I'll give you an honest value on specific items. Im not interested myself in buying so there's no ulterior motive.

    Thanks a million Ackwell,

I'll have to go through them tomorrow & try to work out what they are! Luckily he kept most of the manuals so the photos should assist me in doing that. I'll do it tomorrow & get back to you. I really appreciate the offer of help!

Nice offer from Ackwell there and I'd concur with him. Adverts is great but don't expect to achieve anything like the true value of what the tools are worth on Adverts or Done Deal. As a hand tool enthusiast and sometime collector I can also offer you an unbiased appraisal, Cork is too far from me unfortunately. When it comes to selling tools, as with most things, good photos with clear, accurate and honest descriptions (highlighting condition, whether damaged or worn etc) will help to get items moving. Best of luck with your task.

an alternative to making a list is to take a few snaps of each item / batch of items and post them here, people will tell you fairly quick what their worth

+1 on the photos you should get a good idea of what you have from the guy's. A car boot sale or market might also be a good way to get rid of some of the tools. If you want to give some to a good cause try http://menssheds.ie/ they might take them. Best of luck and sorry for your loss I hope things work out.

Do you have any use for them yourself? Nice way to carry on the memory. I have a few such tools, nice to pick them up now & then.

Yeah, I agree with BarryD. Always nice to keep a few tools as a memory. If he cared them as much as you say he would probably want you to keep the special pieces even if you dont plan on using them.

Otherwise, the best thing is to take a few photos and come up with an list. The lads on here will give honest values and then it's only a matter of putting up on Adverts for sale.

Personally, I'm getting into carpentry and am trying to build up my tools bit by bit so I would be very interested in any tools you are selling.
