Saorview + Free Sat help

Looking to replace the Sky Digital setup I have in the house with a Saorview / Free satellite setup. Bewildering amount of information and stuff on it, so hoping maybe someone here can give me the simple version.


I have two Sky Digital dishes on the roof with a plain old Sky box in one room and a Sky Plus box in another. I don't have any aeriel but as I understand it, I need to get one for Soarview.

I'd like to get rid of Sky and replace with recordable boxes in both rooms. Can anyone recommend good boxes that can take the Saorview and Satellite dish feeds? Be great to know what channels would be accessible also if there is a list anywhere?

Is it just a case of setting up the aeriel in the attic, wiring in the connections and go? Or do you need to fiddle with the satellite dishes also?

Can't post a detailed reply atm but, I will just mention that 1 satellite dish can feed 100s of receivers with the right setup. You don't need a separate dish for each. And they don't need to be on the roof either.

Aaerial required. Saorview recommend an outdoor aerial, it will depend on what the Saorview signal is like in your attic.

There is only 1 Saorview+ PVR available at the moment, the Walker WP6500TTR. Twin-tuner (to "record one/watch one" or "record two/playback one"), 7 day guide, series link (not working atm), digital text.

Freesat+ PVRs require 2 feeds from the satellite dish, the Saorview signal can be piggybacked on 1 on the satellite feeds if you don't have 3rd feed to each TV point. Satellite/Saorview signal combiner/splitter - http://www.tvtrade.ie/alltrade-tv-aerial-and-satellite-combiner.html

As Peter says above only 1 dish is required with either a quad (4 output) or octo (8 output) LNB

There are combi Saorview/FTA satellite receivers available but none with built-in HDD, no 7 day satellite guide, no satellite digital text, no series link, no satellite auto channel update if channels change frequency.

If I buy those things, are they plug and play essentially or do I need to go looking for a professional to do it? i.e. will the satellite dish need adjusting etc? I've no idea how many outputs the two dishes have - whatever the default is from Sky I guess.

I'm in the Meath area - 10 miles from Dublin border, so anyone can recommend someone that's decent, would be appreciated.

Plug and play, you can do it yourself. Existing Sky dish and cabling will be OK.
