Christmas Carol service ideas

New to the Christmas forum and really enjoying the festivities!

I'm organising a Christmas Carol service in our local church. It's only our third year doing it and we've kept it quite simple the last 2 years with just carols by candlelight and a few readings in between. I'm looking to step it up a bit this year and include some more activity or variety! I'm working away though so can only reherse at weekends so looking for something relatively simple to put together in the space of 3-4 weekends!

Any ideas? One suggestion that I'm considering is a live crib (although I don't think I'll be allowed bring the a sheep or donkey indoors!)
