I have a quick 2 day trip to the UK at the weekend and have just noticed that I used "Paddy" on the flight booking while my passport is "Patrick"

Is this lightly to cause a problem, especially on the return journey?

All depends on who you meet on the day and what kind of mood/power trip they are on. Not just the return journey but the outbound also. The Ryanair staff in Ireland are no angel's either.

Hopefully they use common sense and know Patrick=Paddy and vice versa. They could try and charge one of those €60-€100 "admin" fees to change the name for you but it is kind of a generally known fact that Patrick goes to Paddy for short sometimes. Good luck

I rang them there just to see and was told the name change was free, but because I did the online check-in already, there would be a €15 charge per flight to uncheck-in! The flights themselves cost €30!

Think I'll chance it and try to appeal to the common sense of the gate staff.

Just to update, I chanced it and just about got away with it. No problems in Dublin whatsoever as the guy on the gate didnt even look at my passport while boarding. On the return flight, I was stopped by a woman at the departure gate. She rang someone (airport security or someone over her in Ryanair, Im not sure) and immediately got the all clear to let me through. Glad I got to save myself 30 quid.

Moral of the story, use your passport name, duh!
