    Hi

I opened up a post a few months ago looking for recommendations for a tractor for me father.

There was alot of helpful suggestions and friendly advice from all the people here.

Anyways, after all the talk, he has decided he wants a bit of comfort, he is nearly 70 and wants a nice tractor that will hopefully give him no hassle - to do some handy work, nothing major.

There is a local Case main dealer that is getting a tractor in soon and he told the father it would "suit him down to the ground" - usual sales talk I suppose.

Anyways the tractor is a 2011 Case JXU 75, 2 wheel drive, only 300 hours on it, coming from England.

What are people's thoughts on this tractor, is it decent/reliable ?

Don't personally know about these tractors, but as a comparison to your dealers, there is a guy on Done-deal in Sligo selling a 4wd one with only 1100 hours for €18,000.
Would be a lot easier selling a 4wd one again if the notion took you.

Nothing wrong with the JXU . Its a Fiat in Case IH Clothes. Its up to himself if he wants 2 or 4wd. You will have 4 wheel braking with the 4wd which is handy spreading slurry on greasy hills and as Iver said it will sell faster. You can buy the same tractor as a New Holland model which gives you more options for parts, servicing etc.

Thanks for reply. He has never had a 4 wheel drive tractor in all his years farming. He dosent want one now either. He wants a tidy tractor.

If it was me, I'd get a 4 wheel drive, but he has no interest in one.

I don't fully understand your last sentence ?

OK, there is now a good bit of "Badge engineering" in tractor circles.

Ford bought the New Holland machinery company in 1986, and became Ford -New Holland.
FIAT then bought Ford NH in 1991, and as part of the deal, the word "Ford" disappeared off the tractors by about 1993, and were simply called New-Holland.

Fiat then bought the bankrupt CASE/INTERNATIONAL HARVESTER company in 1999/2000, and merged the whole lot.

There was a whole shake-up of dealer-ships, but by and large, there are more traditional "Ford "dealerships out there, and being hard line "Blue" men have less interest in Terracotta (Fiat) or Red (International) tractors.
All depends who your nearest dealer is.

Ok. Thanks for the explanation. Lots of wheeling and dealing alright.

I didn't make it clear, that New Holland's are still sold from separate dealerships, as are Case from their own dealerships. But a Fiat fan can walk into a New Holland dealership and spot a Fiat back axle or front axle in a blue tractor. Or indeed an Iveco engine (another Fiat owned company)
Fiat no longer exist as a separate brand line.
Case and NH are still two separate tractor lines, each sold where ever a traditional brand was strongest.
But often the very same tractor with different paint.
