car insurance payout Q

    Hi,

    I'm confused by a thread in the motors forum.

    The OP got a quote from a body shop to fix a car and wants the insurance company to pay him the money to that value which he will keep himself and fix the car himself.

    I consider that insurance fraud but noone seems to agree with me so I guess I'm talking out my proverbial..

    I dont mind being wrong but I'm very curious about the facts in a situation like this, can you just come up with a figure which the insurance company agrees to, be paid that and that's your compensation to be used however you see fit?
