Moved to Ireland with UK car - Need advice about selling it!

    Hi,

I've just moved to Ireland with my UK registered car - had to move within one week so wasn't left with many options.

I am looking to sell the car but am unsure about the best (and most cost-effective) way of doing so without taking too big a hit on it.

Would anybody be able to advise me on what I'm best off doing?

The car is a 2002 1.4L Vauxhall Corsa, 40'000 miles on it.

    Thanks in advance,

    Cedric

You will have to register it here before you can sell it.
How long have you owned this car ?
You may be exempt from VRT, but you will then be unable to sell it for a certain period.

    Thanks for the reply,

How much would registering roughly cost?

I've owned the car for a year now.

the Irish will be terrified of that, its not the 1.0 model.

you'l have to bring it to a VRT center to get it registered for Irish plates and to get an Irish logbook issued i asume. when you have an Irish logbook you can sell it.

i think, although i'm not 100% sure, because you were a UK resident who has moved to Ireland you shouldn't have to pay VRT, maybe just admin fee's on the registration.

If you need a car here, keep the corsa.

    Cheers guys,

I'll give the Revenue people a call tomorrow and see if I am exempt from VRT, which I would assume is the biggest cost?

If you qualify for VRT exemption then you cannot sell the car here for a certain period of time (I think it is 12 months) otherwise you will be required to pay the VRT.

Can't sell it for 12 months if VRT exempt
