    Hi,

Was wondering if people could offer there thoughts.
I own a Toyota mr2 mk3 that's suffering from heavy oil consumption. This seems in line with a know oil control ring failure that happens on these cars as they get older.

I'd like to keep the car and wouldn't feel right flogging it to some punter.

There are a number of places in the uk that offer a rebuild or swap service for reasonable money(including specialists) but was wondering if there is anyone closer to home who could be recommended?

    Cheers.

OP thought I would post this so you can have an idea of what a rebuild should cost. Allow a good few hundred for the man fitting it.

Be very wary of engine reconditioning companies in the UK regardless of how cheap.. Many of them are cowboys and a good few have appeared on watchdog. I for one have been stung by one of them when I needed a t-sport vvtl-i engine rebuilt.

Would be wary of the ebay lads alright. Seems like the best option might be going to a forum recommended specialist in the UK. Comes with 1year wannenty, not the 30 day you see on ebay.

Yes, the fella on there is where i'm thinking of going. Does a good rate and is highly recommended.

The car is 2001 with about 75,000 miles. The pre-cats were in perfect condition as well.

Good luck with it. I'd be interested to know how it works out,
I was REALLY lucky when I bought mine. I learnt when I was younger the very hard way that buying a 2nd hand car needs knowledge, care and attention. Yet, when I bought my Mr2 I was seriously ill and out of hospital for a couple of weeks between huge operations. I walked in off the road, took the car for a 15 minute spin and barely looked it over. Turned out to be the soundest car and best bargain I ever bought ( out of over 20 cars).Have it over 4 years now and absolutely fine. Probably truly jinxed it now...

I used DI Motorsports in Kilcoole to build my Honda B18, excellent work and very reasonable
