Cash Price Nonsense

    I've a bit of a rant.

Why do some dealers (getting more prevalent) insist on putting the cash price on the likes of carzone and cbg when selling cars? I would have thought that the majority of people trade in cars when changing therefore the cash price means nothing to them.

I'm in the market to change and it bugs me to click into a car so see cash price only.

    Maybe thats just me.:(

I could be wrong but "cash price" could be plain and simple information for the "best cash price today" and "last price" plonkers out there...so it's clear to them..

It makes no odds at the end of the day; youre still going to get the same for your trade in and will still pay the same as you would have done regardless of what was on the sticker price.

It's probably a reflection of the fact that the dealer is p1ssed off with people coming in with unrealistic expectations of how much their old banger is worth as a trade-in. It might also be a signal that his used car lot is full and he doesn't want any trade-ins so will only sell for cash.

I would assume selling a car n getting cash is easier than taking in a trade in, cleaning it up, storing it, listing it, putting in the man hours to sell it.

Cash sale seems far easier than a trade in sale...

Fair enought but if I see one car at 20k and the other at 19k I'll naturally click into the 19k only to find that its actually the cash price with 21.5k as the trade in price. Could they not put both prices on the ad title maybe or highlight the fact thats its cash price on the ad title?

I believe the majority trade in cars so the majority want trade in price. Maybe I'm wrong about that.

It's called advertising. The lower price will always be displayed to suck you in to look at it.

It really makes no odds what price they put up; the only thing that matters is the cost to change plus your own car, which is almost certainly going to be exactly the same no matter what price they put on the sticker.

Your making assumptions based on your own experience. I have been driving almost 25 years. I've owned/bought probably close to, if not more, than 25 cars too. I have never traded a car in, ever. Trading a car is a sure money loser and I'm not in the habit of inflating dealers incomes unnecessarily. When I'm buying a car I want to see the straight cash price not the trade-in price. Horses for courses.

Its very simple and straightforward to list cash price as everyone knows where they stand.

Building in a trade in price would make that garage seem much more expensive compared to others turning off potential buyers.

And let's face it garages can get cars cheaper else where and have better stock of more desirable cars by not taking trade ins.

Ask yourself how much more you want for your trade-in than it's actually worth, add that figure to the price of the car you're buying, and voilá..

I just think its slightly underhand to try and 'suck people in' by using this method. Personally I'm not sure I'd trust a dealer who uses these tactics. I mean what other tricks would they use to get your business.

Yea I know its a bit pathetic but there ya go. I'm just an ordinary Joe Bloggs looking to trade up and constantly clicking on a 20k car to find its actually 21k and more with a trade in.

OP, if you prefer the dealer could talk to you about the newer car at the discounted price and then he can just take the discount off your trade-in price too, the cost to trade up will still be the same.

When you are trading in a car then the sticker price of the new car whether it be the cash price or retail price, is mostly irrelevant. The important figure is how much it is costing you to part with your old car for the newer car.

You seem to be missing the point
Having a car listed more expensively so it can be discounted for trade in if anything is less transparent than cash price.

But I guess its confusing you as you seek a artificially higher price for trade in against artifcally inflated newer car price
