Anyone ever have them. Are they normal chestnuts or a special kind of chestnut.

They are sweet chestnuts. Concers are poisonous.

Sweet chestnuts (pretty normal). Had some this weekend, delish. Slice them, cover with some salt, pop them in a very hot oven, nom nom nom.

Memories if walking down Oxford street at Christmas time. I never are them though, just kept my hands warm with them.

Very easy do to in an old pan.

Just mark out a cross with a knife on the top. Then turn on the heat and hey presto roasted chestnuts.

And yeah when i eat them i do think they look like like brains and always remind me of zombies

Just be careful of worms. If you find a hole in one then there will be holes in others. so you need to cook straight away cos them bstards go thru the chestnuts like a hot knife thriugh butter.

I was in Rome a couple of years ago, about this time of year, there were street sellers of roast chestnuts from braziers. They were much bigger than the ones you can buy here, and very tasty.

Those are my favourite! They come a bit ashen but are perfectly cooked.

Only ever had them once, at the Xmas market in Talinn. Utter muck, and actually quite disappointing. Texture like waaaaaay overboiled waxy spuds, constantly spitting out tiny bits of shell, and no discernable flavour to speak of.

Ah well, at least I know why they were commonly used as a pig feed...
