So im currently doing a level 8 course in DIT which im not too fond of and I'm wondering if I pass the first year, can I try transfare to 1st year of Arts in Maynooth?

I don't have the leaving cert points for it Im 30 points off, but ive heard of people transferring courses by passing a year in a level 8.

If I can do the above, how do I go about transferring?
Do I have to apply through CAO?

Yeah dude, I heard the same process being described to me. Numerous people have told me that as soon as you finish the first year of the same level you want to transfer to, you can call the university and ask them could they hold a place for you for the following year, I'm not sure about the grant system though for transferals, assuming you got a SUSI grant.

TLDR; I would ring the college up about holding you a spot.

I'm not sure this is the case. A friend of mine wanted to transfer from a B.A. Psych in UCD to TCD there last year, she finished off the year in UCD and requested an internal transfer to TCD. Unfortunately they told her up until the 3rd year of your degree your admission via internal transfer is processed PRIMARILY on the basis of your Leaving Certificate results and not your 1st year of Academic Credits.

Now i'm nearly sure if that procedure existed in one Uni in Ireland, it would exist for all, but you should contact admissions to be sure!

Some courses have advanced entry where you do first year and then you may go into second year in a diffrent college/course but theyre few and far between
