    Hi

I got a new job in which i start this week however I don't get paid till the last date of this month. Can i receive social welfare payment until i get paid as I have no other income until then and will have no money or do I need to sign off straight away?

Also how do I sign off without going to the actual social welfare office? I've tried a few links online but none of the ones i've opened work .

    Thanks!

why would you get paid by both welfare and your employer? You need to sign off before you start work.

A lot of employers might be sympathetic to your situation and may well give you an advance - did you ask if this is possible?

No, you have to sign off from the day you start work, there should be a link online that you can sign off, but that depends if your Local Office is covered by that service, you can check that by looking up your office on www.welfare.ie Best of luck in the new job!

If you do face a significant gap between starting work and getting paid, you may be eligible for Supplementary Welfare Allowance (SWA) which can be paid to people pending wages. In such cases a letter from your new employer or payroll office confirming your first pay date would more than likely be required.

Contact the SWA Officer at your local health centre or SW office for more information on making an application.
