Lads can get some recommendations on an upgrade please. I use to be well up on the best tech and that but I took my finger off the pulse a tad.

I currently have an i5 2500K at 4.8Ghz with a P8P67 deluxe mobo (the version with the faulty sata port) and 8GB of high end ram. I have looked into replacing the CPU and mobo but I dont think any of the current gen stuff is value for money as it would only be slighty faster then what I have. Am I correct in that? Or am I missing something.

I was thinking of getting a new GPU but again the new stuff is not a hell of alot faster then what I have an ATI 6990. I would have to be shelling out prolly for a nVidia Titan for a decent upgrade......I would prefer a single card over the dual GPU's. I am still comfortably playing all my games maxed out on a 1920x1200 screen.

Which brings me onto an upgrade that would be nice a new 27" monitor, I dont want to be buying from the far east for the catsleap etc so what is the next best thing for gaming. Must have at LEAST the same res. if not better then what I am using 1920x1200.

I am getting a Samsung 1TB SSD and a new Sound Card in anyway but I would like to get the stuff all together.

Any ideas on a screen or a GPU maybe.....

Cpu/mobo is worth keeping.Only downside is i7's do perform better when using dual gpu's in BF3/4.Either way i'd stick with the 2500k.

A 27" monitor would be a nice upgrade but tbh i'd say the 6990 would struggle to keep a steady 60fps in BF4 @ 1440p with all the bells and whistles.Something like the 780,780ti or the 7990 would be what i'd recommend if not wanting to go sli or xfire.

Another option is a 120hz or 144hz 1080p monitor which are great for fps games. That said you would lose some of you desktop space with the smaller res.

I would sacrifice the res. if the 120/144hz are worth getting for a games monitor. Most of the 27" montiors are running low res so it would not be worth the upgrade. If I got a monitor and the 6990 was struggling it would be an excuse to get a new card lol.

6990 is still very fast, but also still fetches a decent price. I have Nvidia's rival card, the GTX590, and I'm getting rid of it for a similar reason - just prefer single card, and newer tech as well.

The 6990 would still be totally fine for BF4 at ultra at 1440p in my opinion. I'm running BF4 on a GTX590 @ ultra 2560x1080 (I know its not the same as 1440p) and its fine, and the 6990 is a faster card and has more available vram so it has a little more longevity as well.

I'm not saying the 6990 is a bad card its just getting a bit dated now.Selling it and putting the money towards a newer Gpu would be a good idea too.

Here are a couple of benches to check out.
As i said earlier about the 6990 and the steady 60 FPS with all the bells and whistles these seem to show it struggling.I'd just take them with a pinch of salt though as your rig may show different results.

I use a 27" 120hz 1080p samsung and i think its great for FPS games. Its suits me well and i think that gaming on it it very fluid.Either way i'd suggest deciding if you want higher res of more hz first and then worry about the gpu.

Those benches are not right, 6990 is way faster than a single 7950, those benches show it as the same speed!

The AnandTech benches show a pretty big lead for the 6990 across the board, but it doesn't have bf4. Maybe bf4 is particularly bad for the 6990?

I agree but there was a decent improvement between the 6 and 7 series card if i remember correctly.

Yeah I am getting much better FPS with the 6990 then the benches show. If I wasnt I would have ditched it along time ago...it was and still is a top top card IMHO. I do what a new screen its trying to find a decent one thats the problem. I benched the new 290 against the 6990 and there was not too much in it TBH. I dont want newer tech for the sake of newer tech. I want newer tech for the performance increase that is worth the outlay if you get me.

I know I could also overclock the card which I have never done but apparently there is room for a bit of clocking. Might stick the card on adverts and see what response I get for selling it.

Thanx for the link to the screens....will have a read of it.

I dont want higher res for the sake of it....but I also dont want a bigger screen with a lower res as it just does not make sense. But if I seen a 1080 screen running with 120hz and it was fine I would get it.

Any suggestions on a couple of 120hz or higher screens? Where did you get the screen you have?

This is the one I have at the minute.

I actually went back to my GTX590, AMD have such POS multi-screen software, can't stand it. Just going to sell my 7950 on.

Interesting enough, COD Ghosts at 2560x1080 maximum settings, 31fps on 7950 vs 48fps on GTX590 in the same scene.....6990 is a little more powerful than GTX590 as well generally speaking.

Yeah, I am in no rush to sell it (6990) I will get a screen and see how it handles it. It scales well apparently....
