Does Everyone Pay LPT or Just Homeowners?

I rent an apartment in Dublin.
I haven't received any paperwork or mailings on the topic and I read the revenue website about who is liable (I don't believe I am)
    http://www.revenue.ie/en/tax/lpt/faqs/liable-persons.html#section1

But my last two pay checks have been about 150 euro short of what they used to be. I looked more closely at my pay stub and the difference is due to a new line that says, 'LPT'

    I'm confused?

Can anyone tell me what's going on. That's 15% of my rent - OUCH!

The landlord is liable not you unless you have a long lease over 20 years. Ring revenue

You may have been previously attached to a property, if Revenue didn't have a current correct address for you letters sent mightn't have gotten to you, with no contact the assumption would be that you were ignoring the tax, and your wages were attached. You need to call Revenue to explain the situation and organise a refund

In general this is where the landlord hasn't declared the property as theirs, so as you are listed as living at the address it has been registered it in your name.

To sort it you need to call the LPT and inform them you're not the property owner and give them the landlord's details so they can switch it to his name. When that's sorted you'll get the tax back.

    you make it sound easy!
The Revenue "relieved" me for LPT on a property I haven't owned for three years, it was their mistake but now to add insult to injury the onus is on me to get it back, I had to get all sorts of paper work together and send it off to them which I did and now nearly two months later I haven't got a cent of my money back, it now looks like I'll have to write to them all over again.
Any luck UCDVet? I hope you fare better than me!

Surely it's actually your employer that is hitting you with this? Does Revenue order employers to do this? If it's a mistake can't you just tell your payroll dept to stop deducting it? Revenue do not administer your paycheck, your employer does! This would be a quick way to stop the deductions, but of course you will have to go to Revenue for refund.

When the employer fills out P30 form on ROS there is a new box for LPT, in addition to the usual ones for paye+usc and prsi. I'm self-employed (but still paye) so I just enter 0 on mine.

    Yes. Payroll have no input.

Ok that's what I thought. Employer would get in a lot of trouble if they refused to comply I suppose.

It would be good manners for the payroll dept to give a heads up to people about this tho, rather than them just noticing it on their paycheck.
