    Hi,
I am moving from Dublin (Tallaght) to Clonmel (in Tipperary)

Whats the easiest option to travel? I have suitcases with me.

    Thanks

    P.S. I don't have car.

Luas to Heuston, buy a ticket to Clonmel, get the Cork train and change at Limerick Junction onto the Waterford train, which stops in Clonmel.

is there any direct way? without changing?

Private bus leaves from Georges quay (outside Ulster Bank) multiple departures throughout the day, every day of the week, see www.jjkavanagh.ie or else buseireann also offer bus service dublin to Clonmel

OP - the change at Limerick Junction is pretty seamless - it is literally across the platform. There is no bridge involved.

    Train times are here:
    http://www.irishrail.ie/media/12-WaterfordLimerick250920131.pdf

Bus Eireann route 7 times are here:
    http://www.buseireann.ie/pdf/1378994779-007.pdf

    JJ Kavanagh times are here:
    www.jjkavanagh.ie

Alternatively use www.a-b.ie to get the full list of options.

Bus Eireann give a few options but all take between 3hours 15minutes and 4hours 5minutes.

The 007 goes direct to Clonmel 6 times a day.

Take the 004 to Waterford then the 055 to clonmel, 4 times a day.

Take the X8 to Cahir then the 055 back to Clonmel, 4 times a day.

Thank you all for the detailed information!!!

It's surprising that Bus Eireann is taking longer time to reach Clonmel, if I choose stop other than Busaras.

And its €15.68 single way by Bus Eireann.

What stop are you starting from? The X8 has limited stops and the 004 only stops at newlands cross and the Luas stop at the red cow roundabout, also The timetable for JJ Kavanaghs might be quite optimistic.

    Thanks for the Fare list.

I would like to start journey to nearest stop from Tallaght. I know redcow luas stop is 4 stops away from my home. This would be the best.

What is X8 and 004? Are these bus numbers of Bus Eireann? Sorry I am new here and not aware of the things...And how many hours would it take from red cow to reach Clonmel?

I understand JJ Kavanaghs picks up from George Quay (Ulster Bank) only. Which means I have to travel all the way to city center and then take the bus from there and it will take additional 1 hour.

OK, first off your direct options are Bus Eireann route 7, which starts at Busaras and then picks up at Newlands Cross - That is the closest stop to Tallaght. Dublin Bus route 76 will take you from Tallaght to Newlands Cross.

The stop is a long walk from Red Cow LUAS if you have suitcases.

The other direct option is the JJ Kavanagh service from Georges Quay.

Frankly, I'd have to say that if you are travelling with suitcases, the far easiest option is to take the LUAS to Heuston Station and take the train to Clonmel via Limerick Junction.

The train option via Limerick Junction is expensive! €47.69

    Got reply from JJ Kavanagh:
"The fare is €13.00single and €18.00return pp
You can only purchase the tickets from the driver on the bus on the date of travel "

This is half price as compared to train, so I will take it. Also JJ Kavanagh takes less journey time than Bus Eireann.

Please correct me if I am wrong.

JJ Kavanagh should be faster than Bus Eireann as it has a more direct route.

The best train fares are online, and when booked over a week in advance, but they will be more expensive than the bus.

If booked a week in advance the train is €30 via Limerick Junction, or €25 via Waterford. The latter has an hour wait in Waterford for a connection.

EDIT: In typical Irish Rail style it is cheaper to buy two tickets: to Waterford (€10) and then a ticket for Waterford to Clonmel (€12), or via Limerck Junction (€15) and on to Clonmel (€12).

I think it may only be 6 euro between Waterford and Clonmel return, they had this offer (never advertised BTW) a while back.

get the bus, there's only around 2 trains a day to Clonmel from either direction, you'd have a long wait for the next one if you missed your connection!

The trains are held at Limerick Junction - there's no missing connections there!!

Bit if you miss the train from heuston you are screwed as your ticket is useless and will most likely not be refunded without some admin charge.

There is a far greater choice of buses and the dublin to waterford bus number 004 stops at the red cow luas stop and connects with the limerick bus in Waterford which stops in clonmel at the railway station. This connection can be made 4 times a day and a lot cheaper than the train.

    Thanks everyone!
    Will use JJ kavanagh.
Its the cheapest and fastest. Will try it out once everything is ready for Clonmel :)

The bus eireann 007 also stops at Newlands cross if you miss a Kavanaghs bus(they are only every few hours)

Via Kilkenny is another option..................Bus or train. j.j Kavanagh and Bus Eireann go to Clonmel from there.

It would be worth checking out the price of Irish rail monthly return trip from Heuston, there could be good value to Clonmel if u book it on the internet.

I wish you a good stay in Clonmel it is really a lively progressive town with lots to do there.

Sorry to bother you all again.

Is there any reasonably priced taxi/van service transfer from Dublin to Clonmel? So we can transfer everything at once and move to Clonmel.

Do you have a driving licence?

Yes I have European (not Irish) licence. It's valid here to drive with it.
