Opinions Needed Please -- Car Change

Story is the OH has a 2011 petrol Octavia. She's has it in the head to change (can't see the reason myself but thats beside the point)

The options so far just from a general discussion at the week end

1.Trade up to a new Octavia like for like petrol model
    2. Change for a 2011/2012 high spec diesel skoda superb
    3. Change for a demo 131/132 Hyundai I40 diesel.

Now background the octavia is petrol she does on average over last three years 24,000 kilometer per year. The car has over 70K on now so allowing for next few months the average per year is 24k / year. So she is probably bordering on diesel terrority mostly country road commute not much stop start stuff so the driving should be ok from diesel engine viewpoint. Her octavia does somewhere in the early 40mpg so not bad really.

We have three kids oldest one is now out of booster seat youngest two in boosters but no baby seats needed. OH has had no issue with the octavia really had to change leads to the plugs but nothing major. She has had octavia's since 2004 so I have a sneaky fealing that she might like a change however the newer model octavia would probably be enough of a change.

We haven't priced up the octavia change yet however she called to local place at the weekend and the change to a 2012 superb or a 131 Kia were similar money.

What would be best option in ye're opinions from reliability, resale, runnng costs point of view.

As regards options for other cars please feel free to put them foward however We need a larger size family car for the three kids so have no interest in smaller cars, I was never liked ford mondeo's although experience was from a 2005 model so rule them out, passat doesn't do anyhthing for me and prob too expensive and a madza 6 would be lovely but too expensive as would BMW or Audi.

What sort of budget do you have? What about a Volvo S60 or V60?

Are ye planning on trading in the 2011 one? There is no market here anymore for post '08 petrol cars especially at the octy's segment, so you will find it difficult to sell privately.

    Thanks for replies guys.

That 508 look a nice bus always loved the comfort of the peogeot cars not so much the resale of them though. Will take herself to look at one I'd prefer it than the I40 myself.

Funny you should mention the petrol issue. Herself called to a couple of garages and the salesmen wouldn't believe her car was petrol, one even asked her twice if she was sure she said she nearly hit the roof would be some yoke to last three years with her putting the wrong fuel in. Actually from the feedback she got from garages was that they actually wanted the petrol. It seems that they're are so few of them around that they have a market for them. Mad that people are buying small diesel cars for what is patently the wrong type of driving but thats an argument for a different time.

Would be trading in the Octavia its enough for me to be messing trading my older yokes privately. I don't think herself would have the patience for that.

complete madness to be changing a 2011 car after only 2 years especially if she was only going upto a 2012.
Car wise its not a big change either.

Its 3 years now or will be in a 6 weeks. Loan paid on it so she wants to change. I'd agree with your sentiment though my own chariot is an 04 and happy out to let someone else take the hit on depreciation before I own one. I don't mind her having a new one in that she is less likely to be stranded somewhere with the kids if something goes wrong.

Reason for going 2012 would be to go up a class size from the Octavia for a bit more comfort / room and change to diesel within the budget. Otherwise it will be 2014 Octavia again.
