I haven't seen this posted here yet but Superquinn are selling the normal 70cl bottle of Jameson for €20. All the other supermarkets seems to have it 'on special' at €23.

Might be useful to some in the run up to Xmas.

The offer runs from the 6th Nov to the 12th Nov.

Excise is 42.57 per litre of alcohol, that's 11.92 for a 70cl bottle at 40%.

I'm not sure is that the 2013 or 2014 excise? I think it's the pre-Budget 2014 excise rate.

Taking 23% VAT off that 20 euro price leaves 16.26.

Taking 11.92 excise off leaves 4.34.

So out of the 4.34 the shop and the distillery must take their cut.

That is a very low price in the context of the recent 2.00 rise in duty (incl VAT).

This breakdown makes me re-think government's efforts to decrease alcohol consumption. ;)
