When golfers use the word golf

    Is it just me, or does it bug the hell out of anyone else, that when being interviewed, golfers say things like -
    "I hit some great golf shots today"
    or
    "There's some tough golf holes out there"

    Really, I thought you were playing tennis there for a minute, thanks for reminding me.

    Yeah it is quite silly, points to a lack of thought in what they are saying, like politicians going on about "a job of work".

    This doesn't worry me so much, but using golf as an adverb annoys me.

    "I really golfed my ball today".

    I think it differentiates between a shot that ends up well and a shot that was executed perfectly, at least thats when I use it.
    When someone hits one of those rare shots that is just perfectly struck.

    I think it was the American commentators that started it about 20 years ago "Thats a great golf shot right there", and its kinda spread from there.
