1.8 TDCi has a "wet" timing belt and they are snapping prematurely, not cheap to replace proactively either. They like to go through DMFs too.

2.0 TDCi is a PSA unit, smoother and more powerful given the size and weight of the Galaxy. Spare parts and servicing are average priced for the class of car.

How often do the dmg have to be replaced or does it depend on your driving style?

DMF or flywheel usually goes on them generally as the mileage creeps up but there is no specific time or mileage and driving style can be a factor. This is a flaw in most modern day diesel engines not just Ford but it seems to be more common on the 1.8 TDCi.

I have a 2008 galaxy 1.8 (125) tdci uk import. I contacted 5 ford garages and got 5 differing recommendations on the timing belt. Last garage who checked the chassis no said 200000km and bot belts normally changed. Car now has 115k miles?? Spoke to mechanic in Ford garage last month and said 1k to 1200 to change both belts??

Ahh 1200 is mad altogether, did you import privately, or buy off a dealer?

Bought it off an independent dealer over 2 years ago. I reckon I must get belt done soon.

You should definitely get it done soon. You are well into danger territory with it at this stage.

100,000 miles is the recommended interval. My advice would be to bring it back to where ya bought it, most dealerships will treat their past buyers with good aftersale prices. Thats what I did and it set me back €450.
