White politician tricks voters into thinking he is black - wins election

I just learned of this news story. In order to win a seat on the Houston Community College Board, Dave Wilson sent out flyers featuring images (it seems) exclusively of black families.

When asked about this, Wilson simply said, "what a coincidence".

Wilson's flyers also said he was "endorsed by Ron Wilson", and that Ron Wilson is Dave Wilson's cousin. Ron Wilson is known to most Houston residents as a state representative, who is also black.

When asked, in the video, if the Ron Wilson mentioned on his flyers was the state representative, Dave Wilson refuted this, saying that his 'Ron Wilson' is some arbitrary relative, with no political clout whatsoever.

The area in which Dave Wilson was running is heavily African-American, and he won by 26 votes.

I am absolutely staggered by the balls Wilson displayed here. It was completely unethical and deceptive. Nevertheless, it does go to show you that if you do not research who you are voting for, you can be easily mislead.

Technically, he did win the election.

What's completely unethical is voting for a guy just because he's the same skin color. He made a smart move to win over stupid voters.

Sure didn't Martin McGuinness trick a load of people into thinking he wasn't a terrorist?

I clicked on this thinking it would be about Barack Obama.

Well if people claim race isn't an issue (which it shouldn't be), then what difference does it make what colour he is?

He would of got my vote if I saw those flyers come through my letterbox

But I would of researched it more and found out he was being deceptive with those flyers then I wouldn't of voted for him

He just tricked people that were too lazy to research the politician they were voting for

Sounds almost exactly like the plot of that film with Eddie Murphy, The Distinguished Gentleman.

When I read the title I was expecting to see a black guy on stage thanking supporters for helping him a win to election and then to finish off by taking of some sort of black mask and a white guy appears saying ''Now you will see my true form!''

Worse, those arseholes voted form him because of his skin colour and his virulent anti-gay politics.

This is in the southern United States. Probably plays well.

A thread on American racial politics and you deliberately bring Martin McGuinness and the Troubles into it?

You and the people who thanked you are all fúcking morons.

I clicked on this thinking it would be about Barack Obama.

He did a good job, I reckon loads of people are still unaware his mother is white, he is supposed to describe himself as african american rather than multiracial.

I expect if he was proud of his white ancestry and did insist on calling himself multiracial, biracial ( or similar) -and if he said he would object to being called the "first black president", then he might have had less support.

Thats what YOU consider the thread to be about, others see it as being about a deliberately deceitful politician.

Maybe they read the endorsements from other people. The ones he "lied" about.

If a black guy sent around photo's of white people here, along with apparent endorsements from famous politicians people might vote for him. They wouldn't be voting for him because he's white, they'd be voting for him because of his apparent expertise and endorsements.

When they found out, they'd be more annoyed about those lies than the colour of his skin.
