    Hello,

Recently I posted about the tipping point between getting a car (04 Merc E270 CDI) serviced from a main dealer or indy with respect to resale value.

The tipping point of dealing with main dealer mechanics has come however.

After the dealer not resolving an alternator issue correctly, the car has a front shock mount knocking around and the dealer wants to replace the steering rack at a 1.5 to a couple of grand cost.

The car is also going into limp mode periodically with a restart fixing the problem for days upon days before the limp comes back and, although I have not asked the owner, I get the feeling the car is one gear lower than it should be at motorway speeds. The revs seem a tad high at 2000 plus at 120 - 130 kph, but that could just be me. I mention this as I think I remember something to do with sensors on auto boxes throwing up limp mode.

There is also a consistent problem with the battery/electrical system where "convenience" are unavailable to the driver in the morning. It would seem the alternator issue mentioned earlier (in other words, cause of regular battery issues) is still not fixed.

These are some seemingly significant issues with the car, which I would love some feedback on if anyone knows the car/engine well, but the main reason for the thread is to find a reputable Merc Indy in North Kildare/South Meath/Offaly area.

It could be a long shot, but the facility of a courtesy car is a huge plus and probably a big reason my friend has been pouring money into a main dealer

    Thanks!
