    Poll added.

I voted 12 in tandem with its American counterparts

I think 10-12 would work best, they are just really developing the story lines with the new characters such as the Gardaí and the dentist and it will all end now tonight. For a Sunday night at this time of year it's a real audience winner, suprised if they don't commission it for additional episodes next year. I presume the show more than breaks even each episode with advertising and DVD sales, shouldn't be any risk involved in extending the run.

    Six episodes is too many.

I'd advocate two hour episodes. Certainly if they are going to stretch the series beyond next season they'd need to seriously think about that in tandem with the networks that air the show. Time to properly kill off old characters while introducing new ones.
In reality the cops live to collect their pensions, Nidge, Fran et al. die young. There are exceptions in both cases and that allows for the extension of the show to foreign fields (where bigtime gangsters go when they don't die) and the genuine grief these toerags inflict on a community (when good and innocent people die).

Always leave the audience wanting more. 6 is fine

I think if they considered having 2 series of 5 episodes each-per year -it might work.
It is so popular, I couldn't see it not working.

I look forward to it coming back in the Autumn, but have forgotten the tiny details from the previous year.
I know people might say watch the box set or on iplayer-but I never do that.

In season 2 Mary gives Darren a kettle to give to Luke. There's no power lead with it. We see Luke in the car with the kettle. And no power lead. Next thing the kettle is boiling in his house. And are we to believe that Luke keeps a selection of plugs and cables in his squat for all eventualities. I don't think so.

Love/Hate can never finish up until this plot hole has been cleared up once and for all.

If next season is the last I think it should go out with 10 episodes.

:D The kettle lead is the same as that used on desktop PC's, perhaps he had a disused PC that he obtained it from or had an earlier model of kettle that he took it from. It's a big plot hole though, perhaps they could do a flashback or some CCTV of him obtaining it.

A kettle is a container. Perhaps it contained a lead?

9 or 10 with the season finale being a double episode.

They would have had a little look to make sure when the kettle was handed over? I would. I don't think the irish public will buy that one.

8 would be perfect for me with a 2 hour season finale

The best way to make sure you don't loose the lead is to stick it inside the kettle - otherwise they can become easily separated.

Could easily boil the lead then thinking it needed to be in the container section and also be plugged in, could get very messy and not enough tv time for this.

10-12. It all felt a bit rushed/ cramped this series for me. RTE would need to get someone else on board financially - maybe Channel 5 will support it if Series 2 is a success?

    You are over-thinking this.

To boil the kettle one end of the lead needs to be plugged into the kettle and the other end plugged into the wall socket.

Based on Series 4, I'd prefer if Carolan got a couple of decent writers in to help him get 6 good episodes.

Based on last night, I'd say the writers have run out of idea's!

I think based on most people missing their fix tonight that they should look at a minimum run of 10 episodes next year. The international sales of the show warrant it

The only way to avoid people missing their fix is to have a 52 episode run.

I think the only reason RTE would increase the number of episodes is if International buyers wanted them.

Im rewatching seasons 3 and 4 at the moment and its a show that stands up very well. One we should have at least 10 episodes a year of!

    Its simple maths:

If it costs 600k per episode to make and you can sell more of it to international broadcasters, and if the money you make on that is more than it costs to produce, then make more of them!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,102 ✭✭✭afatbollix

Would you rather they made 10 eps but 4 were crap filler esps?

Or 6 really good well written & produced eps?

10 really good well written & produced episodes shouldnt be too pressing. Many shows that are held in similar high regard managed at least 10 great episodes every year.

And they have millions thrown at them.. Little RTE dont have the money to throw at it.

He used a bloodied swans neck as a power lead.

As I said above, its doing very well for them internationally so more money could be thrown at it.

Based on the episode from Sunday and last season also I'd say 6 is too many.

If you increase the number of episodes you risk
    (a) overstretching the writers, reducing the quality
    (b) bringing in more writers, with the possibility of a less coherent narrative and different writers portraying characters intentions etc in a slightly different manner.

A shorter run of episodes means less people having input, leading to a cohesive and higher quality series

There are many successful shows in the past that were virtually a one man band when it came to the writing. The West Wing (for the first 4 seasons) for starters.

Has it been confirmed that its 6 episodes again this year?
