Long term sick question

    I am in a temporary job covering for a girl on maternity leave who is in turn covering for someone on long term sick.

    Just wondering how long can someone be out on sick leave? As far as I'm aware this person has been out almost 2 years, but has been out before for a long period comes back for 4 to 6 weeks then goes off again.

    I thought this wasn't allowed or am I totally wrong.
