Amazon.co.uk prices not match

    Hi,

I had a strange issue with my last order today Sun 10th November 2013 at Amazon.co.uk web site.
I placed in my basket 5 items and want to checkout.
At the last step before placing the order I found out that the total was not the one expected.
If I added the prices from the item main pages I should pay £191.96 but the order said £196.18.
Every item had some pounds or cents more expensive.
I called them but the Indian guy (of course this is not an Irish guy) could not tell me why. After half hour speaking he proposed me to checkout and refund the difference when the item will be dispatched.
I took the opportunity to ask a gesture and I should have 5.00 euro gift certificate for the next order.

So, now I am waiting if everything will go fine.

So, just to let you know to pay close attention when you place an order.
Not a good point for Amazon.

They add Irish VAT at the end, our rate is 23%, the UK rate is 20%.

It is the difference between the UK 20% and Irish 23% vat rates, the extra is added at the end after you select the shipping address.

That sounds like the difference between UK VAT (which is how the prices display) and Irish VAT, which is what actually gets charged when you confirm that you are shipping to an Irish address.

Due to their scale, Amazon are obliged to charge Irish VAT to customers in Ireland, which they then remit to the Revenue.

Moved to Online Buying & Auctions.
