40" LCD repair in Dublin?

I have a 4/5 year old Samsung 40" TV that became the kids' PS3 and Wii TV in the playroom when we upgraded the TV in the living room a couple of years ago. Lately it has begun turning itself off randomly. It may work for 20 minutes after being turned on first but will go to standby then, and again and again more frequently the longer it's on.

I was always under the impression that the panel was what made these things "beyond economic repair". The screen on this one is perfect and the fault seems more like a power supply problem here. Can anyone recommend somebody in the Dublin area that might repair this reasonably for us?

A 40" is probably overkill for what it's used for and I realise that I'd probably pick up something to replace it with for little over €200 but I'd rather see an otherwise perfect TV that cost (IIRC) the guts of a grand, returned to service than dumped.

Yeah I'd a 32" LG that started to take longer and longer to power on, and eventually would not power on at all. Like yourself I figured it was a PSU issue, and google-ing the symptoms seemed to confirm the issue as being so.

Because they were just around the corner from where I lived at the time, I rang a crowd called Electro Components on Tyrconnell Rd in Inchicore. The guy didn't think he could do much with it (not made for repair...) be agreed to take a look, and as it turned out to be the power supply he was able to source and fit a replacement. Bit hazy on it but think it cost around €120ish. My mother has the TV now, still going strong.

There is a known capacitor problem with samsung tv's from that time period, might be related to your problem.
Only this week had to get samsung out to fix a 40" A656, they did it free of charge. If you ring them on 0818717100, give them the model number and full serial number, they will come out and check it for you. If this is the problem they will fix it on the spot for free. Symptom is the set not coming on, clicking sound and light flashing. if its not the visit is still free and they will give an estimate of the repair cost.
