Sign up to tesco mobile with your club card. Then if you top up by 20 you can get unlimited calls to mobiles and landlines, unlimited texts and 5gb data!

    Or

You can top up with 15 and get unlimited calls to mobiles and landlines then just add 1gb data for 5 euro or 5gb for 10 euro and just use the tesco mobile app for texts which you get 200 of. Plus you will still have either 5 or 10 euro left of credit .

And he didn't even get it right. The only difference between free calls with a €15/20 top-up is that you if you have your clubcard linked to your number you only need to top-up by 15 rather than 20. The free webtexts are in fact available for top-ups over €10.

Is the first part a new incentive? I don't see it on the website

OK sorry folks if it was posted before. The 20 deal I spoke off does beat the 48 deal ad its includes calls to landlines

To my mind its the best deal out there for people who do not mind topping-up. In fact why would anyone be on billpay unless they find topping-up/buying add-ons a chore!

For a €15 top-up you get free calls and 250 webtexts. Buy the 5GB of data for tenner and you still have a fiver spare using the big data package and webtexts for your texting on the various apps like whatsup etc. International calls are relatively cheap as well compared to competitors.

no it's not. it is not better than 48 deal

Exactly I cant find anything out there to beat it. Plus once you set up your data / text bundle you can have it recurring so the following month all you have do is top up and your good to go.

Top up 20. For that 20 you can buy 5gb data for 10. Unlimited texts for 10 euro. Plus with tesco you get free calls to all mobiles and the important bit ALL LANDLINES! 48 only offer 60 minutes to landlines. So yes it is better than 48!

    - don't have tesco card and don't plan having one
    - don't see why landlines may be important to anyone these days, can't remember last time I've used one

Its available to you with a €20 top-up without a clubcard - €15 with one. If your buying both the data and text add-on's then its does not matter either way other than the fact that €5 in clubcard vouchers gives you €15 of credit i.e. free calls and 250 webtexts for a month.

It doesn't matter when you last used to landline, it only matters that the person your calling is using a landline. Any interaction with government bodies, companies, organisations etc is going to be on a landline number.

48 has very high international call rates. Most countries you can call for 2 cents minute from Tesco are 1 euro on 48.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,265 ✭✭✭deiseindublin

Sorry, hadn't heard of this offer before, apologies for asking stupid questions.

I've a clubcard, so if I top up by €15 I automatically get free calls? Is some of the €15 used for this or does that go towards the data and text bundles?

People might be on bill pay because they get great handsets at a subsidised price. I for example got an iPhone 5 for 127 euro this year which was free in the end once I sold my iPhone 4S.

Yeah, had looked up the Tesco site but still not sure if the €20 top up is used for the free calls iykwim.

I top up by €20, I now have free calls and can add on a data bundle etc if I like, do I have €20 or €5 credit left?
    (Sorry :o)

    Hi,

Top up 20 and you get free calls plus you still have that 20 to spend ie. 10 euro for unlimited texts and 10 for 5gb internet or the 1gb for 5 euro.

    Hope this helps.

If you port over to Tesco (it uses the o2 network so no change in service) you have to opt-in to the free calls plan first. Check the website for how to do that. Attach your clubcard number to your phone number and topping-up by €15 gives you free calls and 250 webtexts - you still have the €15 credit then to spend on data/text add-ons, international calls and other out of bundle calls etc. Your credit never dies i.e. it does not disappear after 30 days if you do not exhaust it, there is no pressure to spend it unnecessarily. Plus you can convert €5 in clubcard vouchers into €15 of TM credit i.e. free calls for the month, 250 webtexts, and €15 in credit.

If you top-up by €20 then depending on whether you buy a 1 or 5GB data add-on you will have free calls, 250 webtexts, and either €10 or €15 credit left depending on what data add-on you bought.

Don't forget ppl calling their mammys.....

seriously, most older ppl have landlines, especially those living in rural areas, and possibly getting free telephone allowance [soon to be gone, alas]

No. The unlimited calls apply to ROI landlines and mobiles only. Use the 0044 international code when calling NI landlines for the 1c/minute rate. If you do not use the 0044 prefix you will be charged at 25c/minute.

What is data speed like on Tesco compared with O2 directly, is it capped?

It was capped up until yesterday. More info in this thread. Getting 10Mb/s down this morning.

Capping is now gone. As long as your in 3G coverage you should be getting decent speeds. Most seem to be getting 5-10Mb.

Right so to get on board with this and keep my existing number I need to follow this process, right?

    281215.JPG

    1. Order free sim
    2. Register new sim**
    3. Move number

** Does this mean my account login always uses the Tesco number I no longer have or it changes to my number I move as part of the process?

After the above I then need to follow this process...

    281216.JPG

    1. Text "JOIN TALK" followed by clubcard to 1744***
    2. Wait for confirmation text
    3. Top up by €20
    4. Add unlimited text bundle and 5GB data

*** If my wife has the club card in her name can all family members follow this process or how does that work?

    Anything I have missed?

I went through this process myself last week, it's relatively simple.

    1. Order free sim YES
    2. Register new sim ** YES - you will get a text message to your 'new' sim
    3. Move number YES - they will send a text message to your old sim - which you enter on their site to initialise the port. Took about 30 minutes for me to port

** When you port your number over, your tesco login changes to your ported number

    Then:-

    1. Text "JOIN TALK" followed by clubcard to 1744 YES
    2. Wait for confirmation text YES
    3. Top up by €20 YES - OR €15 if a clubcard member
    4. Add unlimited text bundle and 5GB data YES or 1GB if that's enough

A clubcard can have 2 mobile numbers associated with it.

Quick question, how do you add the extra 'add ons'?? I didn't see any keyword to text or instruction to activate it

the bright side is that I noted that the first three month's data of 5GB is actually free (see the link for more info)

If you are using clubcard tokens i.e. 5 euro gives you 15 euro topup, can you do multiple 15 euro topups and stack them to avail of unlimited calls and get the data etc, or do you physically have to wait for every 30 days and do one 15 euro topup?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 483 ✭✭breathn

    No, you can't stack them.
When you topup by 15 euro, it EXTENDS your offer by 30 days from today. So if you are 2 days into your topup and have 28 days remaining, and if you topup again you now have 30 days remaining.

So don't do it. Wait until day 29 or 30 before topping up again!
