I'll most likely be watching the Donaire fight anyway. I've a bit of money on him to KO Via in round 8 or 9.

It will happen earlier than that in my humble opinion

I kind of agree with you there. Donaire wants an early KO and knows he has to deliver it but I think he will be frustrated and will only get it together again in the middle rounds and then get the KO...well I hope anyway :pac:

I'll be surprised if Mikey doesn't win handily tonight. On all known form he's in a different class entirely when compared with Rocky. You could make the argument that Rocky has lost his last three fights, and he clearly lost to Burgos which was one of the most blatant robberies this year. He's tough to be fair to him but even if Mikey's power is disminished at 130 he should still be able to box the ears off Rocky.

Donaire needs a performance tonight, to get the Rigo nightmare out of his mind if nothing else.

Mikey is something special IMO, the best mexican out there for me, really think he will win tonight and i even think he could win up at LW

Donaire lethargic for 8 rounds but what finish!

After watching that i'd give Frampton a good chance of beating Donaire, he looked damaged goods

Surprise knockdown there for Garcia, but he wasn't remotely hurt. Reacted very cool and professional immediately after. Love his jab. As good as any in boxing.

I really love watching Garcia box. He's probably my favourite boxer right now. Looked ordinary enough early on, but the 6th, 7th and 8th were a masterclass in patience and picking somebody apart.

Well done! Must've made a few bob off that. Didn't see the fight but heard Donaire was poor. Rigo must've put a dent in him.

Cheers fellas! I ended up putting more money on Garcia to do the same and sure didn't that fall my way too :pac: that was pure fluke though. If I hadn't made money on the football earlier in the day I wouldn't have thrown money at Garcia but that's how it is!

I didn't stay up to watch the fights myself as I had to be up early this morning but yeah I heard Donaire was very lucky and unimpressive while Garcia was pure class bar the knock down.

Another night's boxing ruined by Bob Sheridan's pitiful commentary!

Always fascinates me the way people who know literally nothing about boxing are allowed to commentate.

And he's been around 40 years!

Donaire looked like he didn't want to be there last night. He needs to take a long break and find out if he still actually wants to do this for a living. One thing to be unable to figure Rigo out, last night he looked like he had no idea how to set anything up because Darchinyan was being a little cautious. It's a pity because the guy has amazing athleticism and real power in both hands, but at the moment it doesn't look like he knows how to use either of those things.

I wouldn't go giving all the credit to Rigo, I think these problems were in evidence well in advance of that fight. He called out Rigo afterwards but I don't think there's any reason whatsoever to make that fight. Not on last night's evidence.

I was impressed with Garcia, but not wowed. Patient and methodical and clinical. Again, how is the likes of Martinez rated so high? Ricky Burns beat this guy. Garcia would need to start a lot faster if in against the likes of Lomachenko or Gamboa. I'd make both favourites over him. Gamboa now at LW is probably a step too far.

I agree. Looked very ordinary. Still think Martinez had little resistance. Lomachenko-Garcia?

Now I'm a huge Lomachenko fan but it's very hard to say how you could put Lomachenko as favourite against Garcia. He's had ONE pro fight. Fantastic amateur but this is a different game.

With regard to Gamboa, I've been of the opinion for a while now that he's a spectacular KO waiting to happen and I think Garcia is exactly the type of opponent to do it. Gamboa has superb speed and offense, but so often leaves himself wide open when attacking, hence all the knockdowns versus pretty ordinary foes. Garcia, with his textbook skills, including defense and jab, is very likely to catch Gamboa hard at some stage and that's when we'll really see what the Cuban is made of.

Gamboa for me is much more likely to catch Garcia clean and fast. We'll see what Garcia is made of. Speed kills here. I would make Gamboa a clear favorite from what I have seen from both¬

The way to counter speed is timing and Garcia's is excellent, especially when he has a chin in front of him that's often way up high in the middle of exchanges.

    Care to elaborate?

Not sniping or anything, just curious what you saw.
He was being well beaten last night and as you said looked like he didn't want to be there. Was featured in a Boxing News feature last week and was all lovey dovey about his son and his 'fixed' relationship with his dad, how happy he was, etc. I was thinking when reading it that he sure didn't have the mindset of a fighter approaching a big fight against a highly motivated, hard punching, very experienced and extremely awkward southpaw. Maybe he's had enough.

Beautiful left hook to finish it though.

The complete aimlessness when his opponent isn't presenting him with opportunities. The Mathebula fight showed up a real lack of creativity when faced with an opponent that was going to make him work to set things up. The Nishioka fight was similar to some degree, even if he did finish it in style. Come to think of it, even against WV2 there were rounds he lost because he just couldn't initiate any exchanges when the other guy was being cautious.

The way he fought last night actually takes some of the shine off Rigo's win for me. Yeah obviously Rigo is still an exceptional fighter, but Donaire looked every bit as puzzled last night against a Darchinyan who is way past his best. The energy and the drive just doesn't seem to be there anymore. Like you say, maybe he's had enough.

Donaire's orbital bone was fractured against Darchinyan. Out for at least six months.

Rumour has it that the injury was actually from the Rigo fight but they covered it up...terrible news for him and for boxing though.
