Tissot Problem

I have a Tissot Quartz Chronograph G10 bought in Dec07. I rarely wore the watch and it spent most of its time in the box. I noticed it stopped working and took it to franchise jeweller to get a new battery installed. I was informed that the watch could not be opened in store and would have to be sent back to Tissot for a battery to be inserted. I received a call from the jewellers this week informing me that the watch needed a significant amount of repairs "seals" mentioned with the cost €190. Is this a common problem? The watch has never been in water?

This sounds like a lot of unnecessary cost. Take it to a watch repair shop, a quick look at stickies or browse of the forum should give you a few names.

Your watch, now being 6 years old is due a service.
The manufactures and their agents will almost always quote for a service when due.
Tissot will change the pushers, tube, crown, glass seal and back seal as part of the service to guarantee water resistance
As above, try an independent jewellers but you may not get a two year guarantee on water resistance, as you don't take it in water it won't be an issue.
