none of these fights stand out to me but i havent actually heard of a lot of the fighter. a lot of fights on though so im sure there will be some good ones.

I think the fact there has been loads of ufc events on recently that there isnt much talk. Hendo belfort doesnt interest me much. TRT battle puts me right off.

Its an ok card but no match ups that excite me. Think Henderson will pull off the win in the main event.

Thiago Tavares looks like Vitor Belfort's retarded brother.

Anyone have an English language link?
Can only find a Brazilian one. Man, those South American commentatores are nuts.

Machida being interviewed now. Man, I must start drinking my own piss. The dude looks ten years younger than he is.

While this is quite harsh you have a point, talks quite like him too.

I like that he used his victory speech to give one of his students a chance calling to Joe Silva, classy move imo.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nazareno_Malegarie This is meant to be the guy, not great record, biggest show he's fought for is Belator, 1 win 3 losses there

Anyone know why the f an ancient UFC unleashed is on BT1 instead of the action from Brazil?

Coming up: Cung Le versus Rich Franklin - wtf

The Daron Cruickshank vs. Adriano Martins fight, what was the weight they were fighting at?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,071 ✭✭✭user2011

    Lights out Jason

Not much need for the punch after.

Well, well, well, nothing at all then BAM

Edit: Tricky one, it's a quick stoppage maybe (because hendo recovers so quickly), but he is out for less than a second and the ref makes up his mind and moves in straight away

There needs to be a clarification for the refs I reckon, do you call if off as soon as a guy is out, or give them a second or two to see if they are really out.. the ref can only move so fast physically

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,830 ✭✭✭Be like Nutella

Do you mean that the ref should've let Vitor punch Dan's head into the mat until it bounced a few times or do you actually think Dan had an actual chance to recover and move out of the way and get up and fight back? I'm not being smart... do you think Hendo was going to recover?

like his arms went limp and he fell straight back and Vitor was going to just wail into his face with big hammerfists at least 3 times before the ref could stop him IF he didn't stop him at the point he did if ya get me so why let him take the extra damage? no way in hellllllll Hendo was comin back from that - Belfort is literally the most vicious TKO finisher from top of the lot - he would've pounded on his unconscious skull 3 or 4 times if it had continued.

    ah :D

I thought you could see him trying for a leg lock when the ref manages to seperate them. Out of instinct maybe, but he would always have had a chance.

Great stoppage by Big Dan, and i wanted Hendo to win.

When he put him on his arse wit the kick he just grabbed Vitor's legs with both his arms, he was on auto pilot, Vitor could have caused some serious damage to an unprotected face

But he clearly looks like he is out after the kick and while he falls

Don't think Hendo looked well at all at the end there. His head bounced off the mat and he looked on a different planet. Disappointed there wasn't more of a fight though. Have to be impressed with Vitor, he fights the absolute top level every time and never has boring fights. I'd watch him every week.

i wouldn't have even called that trying for a leg lock, that was just a grab of desperation

I'd need to see it again in a zoomed in slowmo...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,830 ✭✭✭Be like Nutella

well ok you shouldn't be physically stopping it instantly after the kick connects but Dan went limp and fell back out cold and it was only the impact with the ground that woke him back up as so often happens so the ref made a judgement call on him being unconscious mid air which is fine by me when it's that early in the first round and the guy about to rain down some head trauma is Vitor Belfortrt... it was a collection of little things the ref made the call on - Dan is 43, it was early in the fight, he already took 3 or 4 shots which rocked him and then took a flush soccer kick shin to the head and was clearly falling back unconscious so it's time to stop it before he receives the 3,4,5 massive hammerfists with his head against the ground.... it was a split second judgement call and it was bang on IMO.

I just hope he has to fight outside Brazil if he gets any title shot or number 1 contendership match (if Silva beats Weidmann)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,454 ✭✭✭weemcd

Hendo is a terminator or something, he might have been out, or close to going out there but he still grabbed at Belforts heel, looked gone in the slow mo cam.

Hats off to Belfort though, he is on a complete tear. The TRT will always be brought up but he's not the first or last to ever use it, only losses in the last few years since the first Hendo fight have been to Jones and Silva, no shame in that for anyone.

As for Hendo, he is a man who deserves to go out on a win. Hope he gets a win or two and hangs it up, interview I read midweek says he wants 5/6 fights, that sounds like bad news to me, we're talkin 46+ years of age. I don't think Dana gives him that many fights.

real warriors like Hendo just want to fight - they need to be dragged from the cage like Chuck lol who had to be told to stop fighting what a legend
'Chuck here's a job stop fighting please'
Dan won't stop til he's made to. He should retire if he can. Has his new gym open and he'll get another half mill off this fight prob but I'd say he'd want another 2 fights minimum before Dana will force him to hang the gloves - he won't fight for a title now and he won't get a 5/6 fight contract now either. Dana can't offer it to him after that loss because he knows people will talk like we are here after every potential knockout he receives.

Wow great card all round, love to see Steven V Mcgregor in Dublin, Conor talks the talk its time to walk the walk for him now

Vitor is a savage, I hope he can be this good without TRT when fighting outside Brazil for the title

rare to see a fotn bonus go towards a fight that only
    lasted 3mins31sec

I don't think it's right that vitor got the ko of the night
ahead of jeremy stephens to name but one
Surely they could have given it to more than one fighter?
I suppose with it being the main event it probably was
    always going to happen
must have been 4 candidates for that honour which could
have taken that bonus on any other card

I can't wait to see thatch again
really excited to see who he gets next
both him and khabib nurma are the two fighters ive been most excited about this year

You always hear of the fighters saying they got a special backstage bonus from Dana even if they didn't get KOTN/FOTN/SOTN. It was a pretty devastating KO and I'm sure he got something.

I couldn't agree more. He had already been dropped and that kick landed clean on his chin. I really couldnt see Hendo coming back after that. Hopefully Vitor will get a fight outside of Brazil soon, I'll always be skeptical of the legitimacy of his wins until he gets a fight in America.

Stephens vs. McGregor would be a great fight for the fans but I don't think the UFC will give Conor an opponent that dangerous for a while longer. They need to make Stephens vs. Swanson, that would be a fight and a half.

But hes had plenty of fights in America.

He hasn't fought in America since 2011. It's pretty safe to say that TRT Belfort and pre TRT Belfort are two very different beasts. My view might be biased, though, because I think that the whole TRT thing is a joke.

If Vitor had a fight without it and still looked as good I'd be his biggest fan but until then I remain a skeptic.

Regardless, with his victories as of late he's obviously next in line for a title shot at 185.

ya see it sometimes where there's another KOTN potential but they give it to the main event if there's a KO and coz it was Belfort in Brazil knockin out Hendo it was a crowd pleaser
