It was a struggle to get the old one out but I cant get the replacement bulb in. I cannot find any release mechanism , no twisting or anything. So it's a case of forcing it in. My question Is this normal? as I can't see any other way.

    Fixture is Thorne 770258 HFP.
    Normal florescent tube

IIRC you get one corner in then press it inwards to the fixture on that side then press upwards it should click into place.

A pic of the fitting would help

Brother in law fixed it. Turned out it wasn't lined up the same on each side due to my yanking bulb out. The unit is faulty as bulbs and starter motor work in other unit. Thanks for the suggestions though.
