Repeat prescription cost

I went to the gp surgery today to collect a repeat prescription I had requested a few days ago and was charged €20. There were just two items on the handwritten prescription which probably took less than 2 minutes to write, that's at least €10 per minute. To say I was shocked is an understatement!
Two years ago repeat prescriptions were free from the gp. Last year they started charging €10 and now €20.
I registered my objection to such a huge charge with the receptionist.
Unfortunately, neither Thyroid issues nor Asthma are considered long term illnesses in Ireland  so not entitled to free prescriptions.

I'm wondering if I'm totally out of touch and is this now the normal fee? How much does everyone else pay?

I get mine done in my LTI book when I am down with neuro or in with gp for other reasons.

With my GP, you put in a request at least 24 hours in advance, go along to reception next day, and pick up the prescription - no charge. If I actually see the GP, rather than pick up, as above, then there will be a charge.

Condo131, that's exactly the procedure with my gp. I requested the prescription by phone on Wednesday, popped in to pick it up from reception today and was slapped with a €20 bill.
