Freezing and not responding often

    Hey All,

    My brothers laptop, an Acer Aspire 5734Z, started to take at least 20mins to boot up and when using it, it would work fine for 15-20 maybe even 30mins and then get really slow and unusable and then would go back to working again for a bit.

    So I figured it was some issue with windows so I formatted the drive completely and re-installed windows 7 Pro 32-bit. Initially it seems to be fine but after a fews mins and after i had re-installed a couple of programs it started to stall out again and freeze. I then rebooted and ran windows check disk on it which ran through and found a number of bad sectors at certain points of the process and said it had repaired them and finished.

    I was still seeing the problems so I created a bootable USB with memtest86 on it and ran that and it came through clean with no errors.

    So just wondering if anyone has any other ideas as to what it might be? And how to check it?

    Install 64bit windows and correct drivers. Probably shockwave making computer freeze, does that to everyone.

    Get a new hard drive - it is failing and checkdisk will not solve everything. Put in a 7200 rpm hard drive and you will notice a nice speed boost. If you run CrystalDiskInfo it will not say your hard drive is in good condition. When hard drives get bad sectors, it is a sign that it is on its last legs.

    check the drive with diagnostics /something that can read SMART info. hdtune or whathaveyou

    indeed bad sectors are usually a bad sign
