Does anyone know if there is a particular freesat box that will take a sky viewing card? For instance do the humax boxes allow a viewing card to be used?

Freesat receivers don't do Sky cards. Why not use a Sky box?

Will a sky+ box still record when not subscribed to sky? I was under the impression that it won't

No but if you're not a subscriber why do you require a card? Why not go down the Freesat+ route?

You require the card to get a subscription for setanta\bt sport. They supposedly send you a sky card if u don't have one and their subscription works off this card.

    OK, I understand now.

You dont need to be a sky subscriber to get Setanta/BT Sports. You can use your old Sky card. Just contact Setanta for details

I understand that. However it appears that I do need to be using an old sky box because I can't seem to find a freesat box that will take a viewing card.

Would I be right in saying that they don't have a 7 day EPG?

I've got 2 cables coming from the satellite. I don't mind having a couple of boxes under the tv, but just wondering would it be possible to get an adapter to allow both boxes to be connected to the cables, and just switch between boxes as required? A splitter of some sort.

Would something like this split the feed?

Each tuner in a satellite receiver requires independent access to the LNB (e.g. Sky+ = 2 tuners = 2 cables to the LNB). If a cable is shared between 2 tuners, changing a channel on 1 tuner could also change the channel on the other tuner.

well I'd only be using one box at a time. I've no problem turning off one box, while I use the other. Only thing I want to avoid is having to plug cables in and out. So would the splitter work in this type of set up?

Well, I doubt Setanta can insist on a customer use a Sky box. It should'nt matter to them what kind of box the card is in. The signal will be as good in a generic box as a Sky box. Talking of signals, you will find the Setanta signal is sh**e compared with the BT one.

It doesn't matter to Setanta (and apparently Setanta customer services have told people here as much), but it does to Sky Subscriber Services Limited who actually issue the card. The problem is that NDS do not authorise the use of CAMs.

Chanced subscribing today...ariva 120 box. Doesn't appear to work as channels are not being decoded.

What model Ariva combo box will accept Setanta cards? Also are there any other makes and or models that will accept them?

I have spoken to Setanta who said I do NOT need to be a Sky subscriber for them to supply me with a card, they confirm that I can use it with a Sky box, they don't know if it can be used with other decoders.

Seems like there is a good business opportunity for some dealer to offer non-Sky decoders for use with Setanta cards. Also for Setanta to publicise this fact.

I tried subscribing using a sky card and ariva 120. It didn't work. It appears a sky box is required as they pair the card with the box probably to prevent sharing the card. When I set it up on an old sky box I was asked for the box serial number as part of the set up.
Setanta don't care per sae what box you use but the pairing appears to need a sky box and the ariva wouldn't work for me anyway.
