How do I cite?

Hi folks how does one cite:

[2012] ECHR 886 orally? Also if anyone can tell me how to pronounce Bjedov I'd be most grateful.

It's not just the 2012 Volume of the European Court of Human Rights at page 886 is it?

    Thanks.

It's sufficient to just say, "two-thousand-and-twelve, ECHR, eight-eight-six".

I'd think you'd be safe to go with "Byeh-dohv". See here: http://translate.google.com/#auto/sk/bjedov (You can click the little speaker icon to hear it.)

Is "ECHR" an official citataion? I always thought unreported ECtHR cases were
cited as Bjedov v Croatia (29/05/12, 42150/09) and the [2012] EHRR is the UK based reported ECtHR cases?

Should it be cited as the application number?

I thought so, but maybe not.

ECHR reports are official. It's the same difference between providing a citation from Irish Reports and the neutral citation.

It doesn't really matter because the reality is, you'll be opening a case in Court with copies for both the judge and your opposite number. If any of them can't find the case at that stage, things probably won't go your way.

'v' is and by the way, not versus.
