What stove/fire?

Just bought a new build and have to decide on type of fire or stove to install in the sitting room. We will have gas heating.

It's a closed off sitting room so would there be any point getting a woodburning stove without a boiler just to heat this room, would it be too hot?

Or should we get a stove with boiler installed to heat all the rads in the house, would this save us money in the long run? Could this heat water as well?

What kind of prices would we be looking at for these options? We have an allowance of €2000 from the builder but would pay over if it was a long term energy saving.

    Would appreciate any advice, thanks

Check out this thread - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056390351 - a one stop shop for stove queries. You might be best off asking the question there.

We got a stove in our sitting room last April, a Stanley Cara Inset stove. Couldn't recommend getting a stove highly enough. We replaced a gas fire which didn't heat that well, the difference is incredible. We use coal and it works out at about €2 per day to be nice and toasty, there'd still be a lot of residual heat in the morning which is nice. It's just for the sitting room, no rads or anything like that.

Anyway, check out that other thread.
