Woman stabbs dog to death as he savages her daughter

Read this in the independent and I have been thinking about it ever since:

Lexi Branson attack: Mother stabs killer dog to death to try and save her daughter

"The child’s mother Jodi Hudson, who stabbed the former stray to death with a kitchen knife in a desperate bid to save her daughter, described her as "a bubbly, bright little girl". She said Lexi who was off sick from school when the attack happened had been three months premature and “fought for her life from the moment she was born”.

I was at home with my child, my OH and my lovely cocker spaniel dog at lunch and I asked the hubby, could you stab "Doof" to death in a bid to save Charlie? My OH reckons he wouldn't have to, that he could rescue the baby anyway. But I think I definitely could butcher my beloved "mans-best-friend" buddy of 6 years if he went for my son, and I could probably do it with a spoon.

It would give me no pleasure what so ever. I love that dog to bits and pieces having bottle fed him as a pup when his own mother rejected him. I wake every morning at 6.30 in rain or shine to fit in his 1hr walk before work. I have even turned down jobs and moving house because 1) I would be out of the house too much and 2) had two small a garden for his liking.

Saying that if it came down to my dog or my son, I definitely think i could do it...

Now, obviously, I try my hardest not to let that circumstance arise. Dog and baby are never alone together. But, if and its a big if, it did come down to it, then yes it would be poor Doof for the chopping block.

How about you AH? Could you kill your beloved family pet to save your child/ a neighbours child/ the postman even?

    You called a dog "Doof".
Jaysus, missus, slit his throat now, as it'll be a release.

I had to do that before.

We had a school of viscous goldfish, anytime someone would walk by the tank, the fish would try drag them in and drown them.

I had to drop the toaster in it one day. R.I.P Goldie......:(

Anyone with any sense would kill an animal to save a family member.

You definitely "think" you could kill your dog to prevent him killing your son.

    Hmm.

Ok, it is a silly question, but I think I am coming from the position of an extremely placid person and I could actually visualise myself in the act... its scary to be honest to think that way but could you imagine the preternatural place you would have to go to to do such an act...

I'd have to think about it.

I'd be worried for your son if you had any hesitation in killing a dog to save him...

Hes handy enough with a switch blade  I reckon he would be the one doing the saving tbh

Good for little Charlie that you "definitely think" you could kill your dog to save his life.

    What the fck like?

We used to have fish when I was a kid. Then my dad bought one he saw that had a really bright yellow-and-blue metallic type of skin to it. Looked really cool to a 6 year old me.

It ate all the other fish in it's first night.

It died the next day, presumably from eating too much.

    What an as*hole.

Ah, you'd do it to save your child.
When your blood is up it would surprise you what most are capable of.

Without hesitation. I'd whip its head off, Alsatian or Jack Russell.

Would you fight a tiger with your bare hands to save your son?

It is considered bad manners not to box the head off any member of the animal kingdom who upsets your children

If you have to spend any time thinking about it then best get rid of the dog now, you shouldn't be let have one.

Ah no, let the two of them fight it out between them, only fair. Give the baby a spear and shield if it's a big dog.

But would you fight a spider with your bare hands to protect your tiger is the real question?

I'd watch for a bit, see how the kid got on.. maybe pass him a steak knife if it was very one sided

Definitely play the star trek duel music anyway (thats a given)

I love that dog in bits and pieces

    Corrected that for you

I'd do what I could, but that does not necessitate stabbing/killing the dog. I'd primarily be concerned with separating the dog, from whoever they are attacking.

A dog should never be in control of its owner. The master should be able to discipline the dog, which includes killing it if it attacks in a savage manner.

I'd give the dog a sporting chance and tie the baby's arm behind it's back or something

    Jaysus that's some over-emotive bollix.

The problem with people taking in these "dangerous breeds" as rescues, is that a lot of scumbags get these dogs for the hardman image / fighting. So if you take one in there's no way to know if it was abused for years before you took it in.

It's not always the dogs fault, some kids are right little bastards, they pull the dogs hair and try and hit it and then its the animals fault when it bites to defend itself.

No chance in hell. Nothing compares to the love and loyalty of a good dog while children only grow up to be a selfish disappointment like me.

I'm not a parent, but I'd hazard a guess that people would kill other people for their children so how can you ask if they would kill a dog? I think the answer is obvious!

On a batty Friday note - I could see myself killing a person to save my dog :D

On one hand, you've got a decent point there.

But on the other, you can't use dogs to draw benefits now can you?
