called BladeGlider it is a futuristic EV with in-wheel motors.

the front track is just 1m wide.

    the best part?

Nissan plans to take it into production. Not sure is it a good or bad idea.

    more pics and video here.

    Yeh ....

Have seen lots of 'concept cars'

If it goes to production it will not look like that

    Where are the wing mirrors

How the f*ck are you supposed to open the doors in the Tesco car park :D

No way that will work in real life.
The in-wheel electric motor is interesting though and might just go ahead as is.
    Like MiEV.

Wing mirrors will be a thing of the past in the not so distant future in order to reduce wind resistance. They'll use cameras.

The Twizy looks pretty much like the concept.

II think we need to move away from 5 seater transport when only 1 person is in the car.

Twizy is a good concept but sadly it's battery rental and lack of heating make it unattractive for climates like ours.

    It's also very expensive.

we still need 5 seats now and then so we can take the 5 seater out when it's needed.

In order for that to work we would have to move to a pay as you use system because who wants to pay tax and insurance for a vehicle that would move only a few times a week.

I'm sure it's a 'concept' in the way that they will take parts of it and turn it into a 4/5 seater 'normal' car. I don't think anyone would ever release that car in it's current form, unless it was modified into a motorcycle/trike type of an effort.

Wouldn't in wheel motors add an unacceptable amount of unsprung weight?

Yes indeed, that was one of the problems of earlier designs but I think it isn't as much of an issue today.

In wheel motors would be incredible, no reducer gear, no drive shafts.

A bit my old electric bicycle and a bit like direct drive washing machines.

The only moving part is the wheel, making for incredible long life if battery replacement is offered at a decent price, even the Leaf could in theory go for decades. Though electrics can still fry but it's proving to be ultra reliable.

Batteries by the end of this decade will be much improved.

To be honest electric cars can go for so long that I bet they will only design them to last 10-15 years max or say 200-250K miles then recycle the parts.
