Thinking of importing a 320d coupe E92 from the UK in the new year. Just wondering if anyone has any tips or what to look out for.

Looking preferable for a 08 diesel. At the moment i have my eyes on one for 10500 sterling. Manufacture approved (nearly sure that includes the 1 years warrenty). 67000miles. Atlantic blue with cream leather,

The big issue with that car is a timing chain issue which costs 5k to put right.

Try to get one where the timing chain and crankshaft has already been replaced or get one with a long BMW warranty. You'll struggle otherwise getting goodwill from BMW without a full BMW service history or buying it outside the BMW network.

Other things to watch out for are cracks on 19" wheels and faulty DSC unit.

Thanks Rob. ya thats what i would be worried about down the line (an auld horror story). Think i could be jumping out of my budget range for the assurance that would be need. None the less ill keep on looking. Was originally interested in the b8 a4 but they seem to be no better. Much of an opinion on some the a4 company cars?

Did that myself about 3 years ago for the same car!,

    3 things,

    1) Timing chain issue may crop up or not seems hit or miss really but i have heard that automatics are less susceptible but it seems like you have low enough mileage but definitely check out the engine before you part with the cash

    2) just be aware re the VRT they will look at the VIN to calculate additional VRT on all the extra's but TBH its still worth it,

    3) If you can i'd recommend getting it from a BMW dealer in the UK so you get the 2 year warranty (It transfers over to ireland as BMW UK and BMW Ireland are the same company) and should give you peace of mind

    Hope it helps!

I stand to be corrected but I thought that VRT wasn't applied on extras for cars over 4 years old?
