Unified Eshop accounts?

So this is really starting to annoy me lately and I wanted to get Irish nintendo gamers thoughts on this too.

I have a 3DS and Wii U, love them both, but the Eshop's, why can't Nintendo set up proper accounts for people?

I got a PS3 during the summer and I'm a PS+ member, I have spent an ablsolute fortune on the PS store since and this morning I hoped on to the PS store on my Phone and bought a few games that were on sale, added to my basket paid for and waiting for me to download them later tonight, or tomorrow or next year or download it on another PS3 at another time under my log in details forever.

Why cant Nintendo set something like this up? I used to buy a lot on the 3DS eshop, last thing I got was the two Zelda GB games for €10 and thats fine but jaysus if I loose that system, all the games I've bought over the past 2 years are gone or is a complete hassle to get back onto a new 3DS.

Since the Wii U came out, I havent bought anything for that Eshop due to not having an account system in place and havent looked at the eshop since like March due to this.

I dont mind paying Sony €50 a year for something like 20 odd free games and discounts, its amazing and I dont have to worry about loosing any of these games, ever. But with Nintendo I just dont see the point, I know the chances of my Wii U breaking are very slim but god I would happily pay Nintendo €50 a year to have an account where I can cross play with the VC for just NES SNES and N64 etc games and to know that if something happens I can get my games back no problem. The chances of Ninty giving away free games I dont think would ever happen tbh.

What are your guys opinion on this and Ninty being so stubborn to catch up with Sony and MS, what ever about having the 'weakest' system, just make your online store better.

Sorry I'm ranting here but god they need to get the finger out with this now(along with a lot of other things too)

Should Nintendo follow In Sony/MS footsteps and let us set up similar accounts? 9 votes

Yes! They should have an account system in place

No, they should leave it they way it is.

I agree, it's something that they need.

However, I don't think that it's a case of Nintendo being stubborn, I think that they're overly paranoid about ways that it could be exploited.

I do understand after Sony was hacked in 2010 that it would put the willies up them as they have such a squeeky clean family image, but I would imagine that all the casuals who got a Wii in 2006 to date are a lot more tech savvy now and purchased xbox or ps3's since along with google accounts on thier phones for app's etc, casuals are not stupid at the end of the day.

Just feel Ninty have had years to work something out for accounts and just, at the moment it seems like a mess. They have some choice games on each eshop but I'm very reluctant to get anything and I'm sure I'm not the only one on the planet to think this.

I did hear they are planning to release Super Mario Bros 3 on the Wii U and 3DS eshops at the same time, I am praying that this could be a hint to a new cross play account system they might try out, but those VC releases were announced a good while ago and nothing since.

Haha, cant believe how angry this makes me *rolls eyes*

They are terrified that people will somehow use a less stringent ownership model to clone accounts, selling on consoles and pirating the ****out of their IPs. It's why they tie downloads to the handset, it's why they only let you transfer your account from handset to handset a limited number of times (7?), it's why you require police assistance to get your account back if lost, it's why you can't put money on the eShop and spend it on the WiiU or 3DS as you see fit. But they are slowly defrosting. Give them time, they'll get there, and when they do it'll be too late because the world will have moved on to even more nebulous concepts of ownership.... but they'll still own Mario and Zelda and Kirby and our hearts and souls will follow.

3DS MiiVerse is the next step, creating a single online entity to cover your fixed and mobile gaming persona. The Wii -> WiiU upgrade for VC titles shows that they're open to unification of accounts especially where it can be monetised. There is always hope...
