Very difficult to gauge this unless going to Foregolf was the only thing you did.
For example did you take lessons around same time ?
    Practice more/differently ?

etc etc...nothing happens in a vacumn

For me got driver fitted with them and it definitely improved my driving but then the shaft was completely wrong for me to start with so hard to say whether just buying a stiff shaft off the shelf would have resulted in as much benefit

i got fitted a few yrs back.
made a difference for me. they didnt try and change my clubs, irons were unaffected.
just new shaft in my driver and 3 wood. my fairway in regs went up substantially and improved my scoring
i have my settings for my clubs now so just use them whenever i get a new set

    Slight hijack here

Starting to think about getting a driver only fitting off them- did you find it useful/did the finished driver cost much (I appreciate the cost is spec driven!)

Personally I would see if I could find a pro with a launch monitor (trackman, flightscope) and try various driver/shaft combos and then buy second hand or off t'internet based on what is best for your numbers.

50 for driver fitting plus (in my case) 140 for shaft makes it all a bit too expensive IMHO

Went for Driver & 3 wood about 2 years ago, got Cleaveland woods. 3 wood is fine but the driver really seems to suit me, probably not a whole lot more distance but every drive goes roughly where I want it to, which makes the game a bit easier (9 handicap probably down 1 - 1.5 in that period and definitely driving better)

Fair enough. But Foregolf is surely a trek in itself then ?

Professional, trustworthy and dependable. I know a case of someone who got a really bad fitting elsewhere and Fore Golf sorted it in one fitting. Also know people who were told what they had suited them well enough and not worth changing.
    Best around in my view.

I don't think we can tell you for sure if club fitting will help you but it helps most people and I think Fore Golf are good at it.
    But it is your call.

I'd agree with this. If you have the money then go for it.

I'd a iron fitting with Foregolf almost a year ago to the day (wrote a long review of the experience here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=82214768)

Anyway one year on with the new irons I don't think I can fully answer your opening question.
I don't have any noticeable gains in yardages, I did initially for the first two months until my swing went to pot and have since been back to my historic average of a 7 iron from 155 yards.
In terms of handicap I've had a terrible year having gone from 7.5 to 8.8 with only one miserable cut of 0.2 due to a two shot clause 19 adjustment. It's been a frustrating year but at least now I can't blame the irons.
Consistency has improved in terms of my bad shots being that bit better and feel certainly has improved but it was a big change going from quite chunky Lynx Black Cat irons to smaller muscle backs.

My lack of performance over the year was more of a result of trying to mend bad habits and poor technique than due to custom fitting and a club change. In summary I am still happy with my custom fitting experience and glad I got it done. I do like my current set of irons both in terms of feel and aesthetically and have no intention of changing them but may look into getting my driver and 3 wood checked at Foregolf when I finally ingrain my swing change into muscle memory without all these persistent and reoccurring problems.

@ DR maybe some lessons will get you back on track!

Went to them a few months back and quite happy with the clubs they recommended. I'd say my game has improved (but i did get lessons as well).
Overall, i feel i'm striking the ball better though.

posts such as ^ are great for foregolf but i'm guessing you were pretty serious about improving your game, hence the decision to go to FG.
Can I also guess that, as you spent a premium on the clubs you also spent a lot of time practicing with your new clubs.

Thought u might figure it out yourself, going the whole fitting route usually coincides with a new regime, attitude, commitment towards golf so the real reason for the improvement is hard to pinpoint.

Do you know the difference between correlation and causation?

In the 18 months after being fitted at Foregolf my handicap went from 13 to 5
for me it was a big success and well worth the money

Yes, I did start to play and practice a bit more but I had been stuck between 17 and 18 for 2 years and was frustrated. Undoubtedly the clubs I got from Foregolf made a big difference in that my bad shots were better and my ball flight was way better on my good shots but it wasn't an overnight transformation. I got irons, wedges and a hybrid from them and was very happy with them, however having said that when I was changing my driver earlier this year I didn't go back to them as I couldn't justify the spin up from Cork and the premium price when buying just one club.

Only way to even half prove that is to play with your old clubs for a while now and see do you go back to the same level or not. Even then it will largely be psychological.

To be honest, I don't know if it lives up to the hype, maybe it does, maybe it doesn't.
Greebo mentioned the psychological effect... This could be huge in itself so I'd include it as a benefit of a custom fit.

I have a feeling that, in your case, no matter what is said, you will always have that niggle in the back of your head if you don't get fitted.
You seem to have been caught :D
I think you need to go and get fitted, the improvement is largely down to what you do from there I would say.

I think its quite expensive to buy irons individually. There's no obligation to buy from them once you pay for your fitting. Why not just get the spec sheet from them when they do the fit (or even just remember what spec you need) and order from your club pro or wherever ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,823 ✭✭✭✭First Up

Are you sure about that? The testing part is a stand alone transaction - you pay for the analysis and recommended spec. Surely that requires they give it to you?
