Bonnet, Dent, Filler!

Hi all, i'm going to start a little project to try and repair my dented bonnet.

    it's a gloss black mk5 golf.

Old thread here in which I was advised to get a second hand bonnet instead. Honestly - the're like hens teeth. I've been searching for about a year now and have ordered two bonnets. The first was damaged in transit and was returned to sender. the second is currently on the car - it's metalic black and has a bigger but shallower dent on it (aswell as two pinhole dents).

So, the original bonnet is currently under my bed gathering dust. The lowest (decent quality and facilities) quote for filler and respray was £230. F*ck me dead.

ANYWHO, I'm going to sand down around the dent and go about using filler. I'm gonna do it in the house and take my time - i'm fairly confident I'll get the contours bang on with some patience and trial and error.

QUESTION TIME: Which is the best filler to use? and where is the best place to order it from?
    • I'm told the Isopon P38 is grand but it's very thick to work with and always leaves little pin holes (which show up in paining)
    • I'm told Autofil Gold is much more liquidy to work with, you can build it up nicely in layers, and it doesn't leave pinholes
    • And lastly, I think the repair place was going to use an aluminium body filler such as Bondo Metal Fill. I've no idea if this is superior or if you can even get it here?

Note*, I'm doing this because I may aswell! the bonnet is just under the bed and any repair place is gonna sand it down etc. anyway so I may aswell have a go! If I'm happy with the results, my mate has a paint gun so he'll sort me out with getting it primed and a colour matched paint.

Would it not be easier to use paintless dent removal on the original bonnet?

can't. trust me i've looked at all of my options.

PDR wont work because it's a very sharp aggressive dent and it just so happens to be right on a styling line which is right over a structural doubler.

Bonnets are a bastard to get right due to the re-enforcement behind them and the large area is difficult to hide blemishes in

Personally I'd get another bonnet the same colour and do it up

I've tried going down the road of getting a new bonnet, honestly it aint easy!

if a car gets written off, most cases its a front on collision.

Getting a "new" bonnet off ebay and you'll get the non OEM ones and they just do not fit flush at all. they're terrible.

i've ordered two bonnets from donor cars and one was damaged in transit, the other has other dents in it. plus it doesn't fit exactly flush.

Keeping the original bonnet is the best bet. I just want to know which filler would be the one to go for, if anyone has experience in filling / re-spraying
