    Hi All

Looking at getting a PC to use for music system in a pub. It will most probably be on for 12+ hours a day. I got a quote of €500 for a Fujitsu mini PC without screen from a local business supplier. What is better for my query, mini pc or standard tower.

    1. What is your budget? €500ish

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? music steaming or itunes

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? [No]

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? No

    5. Do you need a monitor? [yes]

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? [yes]

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? [not necessary]

    8. How can you pay? [Bank Transfer/Credit Card/Laser]

    9. When are you purchasing? [ASAP]

what size screen are you thinking of using?
Is it going to be a touch screen interface?
Is it going into a jukebox cabinet?
How much space do you have for the setup?
How big a music library is it?
    is the 500 ex vat?
Do you know what software you are going to use?

what size screen are you thinking of using? probably 19"
Is it going to be a touch screen interface? Not necessary
Is it going into a jukebox cabinet? No
How much space do you have for the setup? Can put the tower in a cabinet and mount sreeen on a wall
How big a music library is it? I would assume less than 100GB & also primeraly using streaming apps (Rdio, Spotify, etc)
is the 500 ex vat? ex vat
Do you know what software you are going to use? Windows 7 OS

ok I might have misread this, is it customer jukebox or a behind the bar and the only the bar man will be using it? also what sort of receiver will be be plugged into (i.e. what sort of output are you looking for)

Ah sorry. It was my mistake in the OP.
It will be used behind the bar for background music (Playlists, etc )

If it is only for music you aren't going to need anything powerful.

truthfully you could look at getting a semi decent android tablet as it could well do the job you want.

Other then that a nuc (needs RAM and harddrive) same suit if space is an issue. Or a micro server would also do the job (not sure if money back offer is still available check the bargain alerts thread. Actually even a rasperry pi would work as a linux distro would do everything you want instead of windows.

Other then that a build around a case like this might be of interest. Just depends on how powerful you want it to be

I know this isn't really relevant, but neither Rdio nor Spotify's licensing allow for playing in a public place, and if IMRO or PPI catch you, they'll come a-looking for their money.

Raspberry Pi with Openelec/XBMC and control it from a smart phone with the XBMC app.
Music stored on a separate HDD or two.

My preference presently would be the R-Pi with Squeezeplug .... but there are a lot of audio options for the Pi.

Something a little more powerful could also be used of course ....

I do not see the need for a full-grown PC running Windows for the application as described.

I was only speaking to someone today about that. Could you point me in the right direction regarding licensing issues ?

Edit : Found the info for PPI & Imro. I had better make contact and see what I'm liable for

These are the guys. A guy I know was found to be playing the radio in his coffee shop without a license without and had to make some kind of settlement with them.
