Motor Tax offices closed next week. Question

With the motor tax offices closed next week, what happens if someone wants to put their car back on the road from next week but can't tax it and is subsequently pulled over by the cops? Is there anyway to prove your intention to tax?

Has anyone else found that change of ownership forms are taking a while to go through.

I still can't tax the car I bought last Friday as the details haven't been processed.

Any idea how I can tax it?

Unless the current owner can do it on your behalf then you will need to wait until it is processed.

I doubt it and the form has been sent off.

    Oh well

Once it shows processed on the motortax website you can request a new PIN and tax it online.

I'm waiting since the 20th of Oct for change of owner ship, but the car is taxed already. I did hear that is was much slower.

I've been trying to do that all week. I only noticed yesterday that I had to reply to the generic email they send if I wanted an actual response whne requesting the PIN.

I forgot I could check if a change of ownership had been performed so I'll keep checking that. Hopefully I don't get stopped by someone having a bad day.

You won't be able to request a new PIN until they have processed it. I presume the old tax is out quite a bit.

Out since the end of August and it was declared off the road.

There is loads of insurance and tax on it. I just can't tax it for now which is a pain in the neck as it'll be at the back of my mind until it's done.

    They are closing the offices?

They're closing the offices next week to get through the backlog of driving licences.

My car is declared of the road at the moment, but depending on work I may or may not need my car next week. I don't want to fork out for tax if i don't end up needing it, but don't want to drive it next week with no tax. It would have to be next week of all weeks! Can't do it online either.

I had the same a few months back and when I rang the Motor Tax Office they said they could tax it for me if I brought in a receipt etc. Luckily the dealer was able to tax it for me to save me the hassle. Might be worth giving them a call to see if they'll do it.

The law vehicle must be taxed if used in public place will still apply. However you would have grounds to appeal parking tickets and court summons. Garda check point would be up to the discression of garda and if car been without tax for a number of months could impound car.

Your appeal would be only successful if you back taxed to period you where driving it.
While you might win these appeals the hassle and inconvenience will not be worth it.

As tax offices are closed for 1 week it be better to wait and tax when they reopen rather than risk all potential hassle if you get stopped without tax.

you cant or its not possible?
I was thinking of taxing something thats been put off the road officially as it looks like I'll need it next week, this is the first Ive heard of tax offices being closed, I cant see why they wouldnt stay open and divide staff between counter enquiries and licence backlog? or even have most staff on licence backlog, with a minimum to deal with enquiries.

But the tax offices don't deal with driving licenses anymore?

Clondalkin office is closing permanently in December - have to use Ballymun or Smithfield.

You can only tax your car in your own local district.

It has??? I used to go there before clondalkin was opened (my age you see)
if you thought clondalkin was busy, cramming everyone into that room was a joke.
So, any ideas if you can tax a vehicle thats been off the road officially, online. I only put it off the road a month before the deadline.
