Car service

    Hi all,
I got my car serviced on Tuesday with a reputable nissan garage, where I had actually bought the car from. So they ring me up tuesday afternoon for authorisation to change a tyre that was worn and the brake pads and to obviously ok the cost of this which was 400euro in total. While I was speaking to the receptionist who rang me I told her my front lights were blown too and she said thats ok they will be checking all those things. Then I drive my car for the first time by night and it turns out my lights are still blown, they never checked them at all???? I cant understand this as it says on the vehicle healthcheck that all my lights are fine. Im mad for a few reasons:
    1) It makes me doubt the whole service- what was done correctly - or was it a rushed job
2)I had a meeting tonight, and was luckily able to borrow my sisters car because she was around, but what if she wasnt around and i had to go out or take the kids somewhere urgently?
    3) I had to make arrangements tuesday to be without my car for the whole day- this meant others collecting and dropping me and my kids and now i need more time to get this sorted again! When i already paid 400 euro for this service. Raging!!

I would have had them collect the car, give you a replacement, and drop your car back when the lights were working. On a separate note, never let a main dealer change tyres - they're too expensive.

Thanks just wasnt sure what way to appoach it when I ring tomorrow- going mad i let them change the tyre now- but handy to know for future reference!

Have you checked that there is a new tyre fitted? Is it a premium brand as it should be for the price you paid or is it a Chinese banana skin? What about the bake pads, can you get someone to check them?

Have no idea what tyre was put on- I assumed it would be the correct type but now Im not sure. Just reading the vehicle healthcheck again and a couple of other things caught my eye- it says wheel- alignment- R- requires front tracking check, due the 12/11/2013, cost 60euro, authorised-no. No one asked me if i wanted this done, surely if it is due 7 days after the car was serviced this should have been done? it also says i need new wiper blades but didnt authorise that either??? I mean when i put my car in for a service i want everything fixed... losing confidence in this garage

just see a note at the end- says tyre type budget- rating - H- price 75euro plus labour makes it 92euro

Budget is a polite word for "cheapo" but €92 is not cheap.

    Exactly.

And also should be said that it's recommended you replace tyres in pairs of the same brand on the same axel.

If it was me I would write a strongly worded email to Nissan in Ireland and CC the dealer telling them of the service you have received and despite the fact you mentioned a fault which was additionally supposed to be checked and confirmed working as part of the healthcheck clearly no such check was done on such a simple item to test. Advise you have no faith in their trained mechanics and you believe you have been deceived and don't consider the car to have been safely inspected.

Disagree - we buy wholesale direct from manufacturers and are regularly cheaper for tyres than tyre shops who charge seperately for valves, balancing, disposal etc - we can make it cheaper by already having the car on the ramp with the wheels off

    WE?? Ooohhhhhh :)

In fairness any dealer I've seen tyres advertised in I've got sick with what they were charging.

I think anan1 should have said never buy tyres of a dealer without getting a quote from a tyre centre first.
However it is generally true. In my experience main dealer tyres have always been a lot more expensive than what I could get the tyres for and fitted as well.

Why were you waiting for the car to be serviced before attending to the no lights issue?

The garage were very apologetic for their mistakes, came out on friday and replaced my headlights and also something else they forgot to do, they were very nice but the whole episode leaves me with little faith in them.

Mistakes do happen, how a business deals with them counts for a lot in my book.

    For Naughty Smurf:
Im sure you are always the person who has to post a sarcastic answer to all questions- I dont feel the need to eplain the circumstances of my life to you- nor do I need to tell you when exactly my lights blew- I was looking for a bit of helpful advice and a bit of venting. So thanks for nothing!

Profit margin on light bulbs is probably the reason
