So my Alfa GT will be going up for sale in the coming weeks. New arrival on the way so I need something that will carry a baby and a bike at the same time. Sadly the GT can't do this.

My budget will be what I can get for the Alfa (07 1.9jtd, black with beige leather, 90k km) plus €6k/€7k.

Will be doing up to 150km a day so diesel is a must.

Any suggestions o wise Motor Boardsies?

Summary: baby, bike, economical and will sadden me least coming from my GT.

    Cheers, AZ

    159 Sportwagon :pac:

    Edit: http://www.carzone.ie/search/Alfa-Romeo/159/SPORTWAG/37113825182686770/advert?channel=CARS

Might be stretching your budget a bit.

Good call on the 159 SW, quite a rare find on Irish roads

And Tracta Motors would be more willing than most to give a decent price on a GT for trade in i'd imagine being Alfa heads themselves. Has a tow bar too which would be handy for a bike mount.

I changed up from a GT to a 159 myself and would recommend the switch. Also remember you'd have to change your username if you got anything else :)

If you look in the UK you'd also have a lot more options.

Yeah seems to be low enough spec on that one alright. Heres what you need OP :D

I can't tell properly from the pics of the Irish SW but it could be the 150bhp engine? I think the M after JTD is red.
Plus at least the Irish one has digital climate control so not a complete bog standard one :)
What I would recommend on those 159's is to have the DPF and EGR removed and mapped. Makes a world of a difference

I looked at that but, no way of getting a roof rack on and with a boot mounted one I'd have to take the bike off to access the boot.

I'd say it will be very difficult to go from an Alfa Romeo to another car that isn't as driver focused. A BMW 3 or 5 Series Touring is probably worth looking at.

You could get a 185bhp 2.2 diesel Mazda 3 from the UK if you sold your GT privately. Very nice chassis on that car.

Sounds interesting, never been the biggest fan of Jap cars. Always came across good but very dull on the inside.
    I must investigate it further.

Any idea what I could expect to get for the GT in a private sale?
The Diesel GTs seem to disappear fairly quickly on carzone.

I'd say in or around 6-7k depending on service history and spec. I presume cam belt and water pump have been changed?

Yes, they were changed at 60k km.

Full service history, all main services done at Alfa garage since I bought it.

NCT'd to November 2015. I was going to price it at €7.5k

Yep, jap interiors can be a bit function over form alright, but Mazda's are usually excellent to drive. The 3 and 6 are both top of the class in terms of handling. The Mazda/Alfa collaboration I reckon should extend beyond the upcoming roadster.

I'd probably price it at around that myself. Heres your competition. One is overvalued, silvers not a great colour and the other (my old one) is a former write off so you should get around the 7k i'd say with history, NCT and belt done.

I was in the same prediciment as you 4yrs ago, selling a GT and what to get next. Something with a decent practical boot and still have a bit of driver focus but not break the bank

I test drove a 2.4 159 sportwagon but the high boot lip on the 159 SW killed it for me. The boot wasnt huge either
Settled on 4th generation Subaru Legacy estate and still have it. Cant fault it. Interior is obviously never going to match the GT for looks but its not the worse and the boxer diesel is nice to drive. Only gripe is mine is the 5speed but the ratios are well matched and its the same bhp as the GT i walked out of

If you want to bring the bike and the baby inside the car, then the 159 SW will be tight as the boot is small- unless you have a small frame size you wont fit the bike inside the car without folding seats. Ideally you want a car you can stick the bike into the boot with wheels off, but without folding the seats. Based on your budget I'd go for the Octavia VRS and your budget should see you get into a 2010

Are you selling it privately or is a dealer selling it? Looks in great condition! Best of luck with the sale.
