to see if a new thread would be allowed?
I was posting on a thread which a moderator closed and there doesn't seem to be an option to send him or her a private message?

Jingle a bell labeled 'self importance'. That should get a few.

If they closed a thread, it should be pretty obvious that discussion of the issue should not continue...

Stand in front of a mirror and say the mods name three times.

Is it an After Hours mod you need?

Send them a private message. Click on the drop down beside your user name on the top navigation bar and go into it from there.

If you still have problems, ask here: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=30

Ask Gordo to get out the oul' Mod signal.

You'll get the mod you deserve, just not the one you need right now.

Misread title, though you were putting a hit (contract) on a moderator.

No, I got the impression that I was 'leading' the thread in a direction unrelated to the actual topic. The topic has merit though and I would like it discussed, although maybe not in After Hours!. The mod who closed it just had options to contact him by Yahoo or Msn and I don't have those.. I wanted to ask prior to posting in case some mod goes off on one and deletes the thread randomly.

As mentioned above, there's a private message system on Boards that ain't really that difficult to figure out.

Click on Private Messaging in their named profile. You can see which Mods mod what Forum down at the bottom of the screen.

Actually how do Mods become Mods though? Graduation Ceremony / Party / Dinner? Fresher's Ball? Or what like? Do ya have to graduate from a Trainee Mod to a full official Mod? Does the process involve never-seen behind-the-scenes months of training / shadowing other Mods or what goes on like? :)

None of that, you just wake up in the boards dungeon chained to a computer desk one morning.

As I mentioned, there was no option to private message the mod in question. I find this board very 'busy' and I can't see the wood from the trees most of the time. If there was a button with PM on it or something, that would be easy. I'm a simple person really.

Aha! Got ya! I need to click on their name before I can pm. How complicated!

Click the persons username. The dropdown menu gives you the PM option.

....But don't mind doing that, just tell us what you want to talk about!:)
